I don't fish frogs that often, but some of my friends that fish for huge bass down south tell me that Spro makes great frogs, but the best are the River2Sea Wood'n Frog. They have metal arms that come out when they hit the water and as you reel in they make a heck of a racket. They are having a huge sale on them right now and they may not be around for much longer.

There are really only three that are worth a dime in my opinion and I have used just about every one in the last 40 years. They are a Snag proof tournament frog, Spro Bronzeye Frog and a tru tungsten mad maxx. Here are the videos on them. FROG VIDEOS

If you are talking twitchin slop frogs i like snag proof and spro..... if you are talkin about the softplastics go w/ the rage tails or zoom horny toads..... i can't tell you how many Potomac large AND smallmouth have demolished those lures and made me look like I know what I'm doing over the last few years.... I can't wait to get them wet up here in PA waters now that I'm home

As for me it is called Super Frog! I belive they are a vintage type of lure! Then I also like is a Mister Twister Hawg Frogs! Some of the old types are still very effective. This frog bait that is hollow body and has skirt legs is a old lure made back in the 70's but had solid legs, the legs are the only thing that was changed!

In my opinion, If you are really serious about catching bass on frogs, not losing them, and catching a lot of really decent bass from various locations with different techniques, then you need to invest in 2 0r 3 decent frogs that really work everywhere. Here they are: FROGS

Z-Man makes three different kind of frogs. One has the new kicking legs, another has the rubber band legs, like a scum frog, and I can't remember what the other one looks like. They're all made from that new stretchy rubber. Thinking about picking some up. The old scum frog is pretty beat. Remember: feel the fish then set the hook.

i have two 370 boxes packed with every frog under the sun if i wanna weed out the litte guys its mad maxx and spro but if im getting alot of misses i switch to the scum frog its alot softer and smaller they seam to get it down better. and the stanly ribbits are amazing when twitched threw the grass or the bottom instead of the surface like most ppl think of em. also the new spro poppers are nice trim the skirts though the ones i go were crazy long and sunfish would run off with it by the skirt stands

I've fished so many brands and you know my husband who stays with his cheap scum frog I think has most of the strikes than any of them combined. That scum frog goes in the sloppiest of messes and attracts big bass.

I personally am a big fan of the excaliber popper it has a slim profile and despite the double treble hooks hang ups are scarce but it is a hard-bait. Give the rage tails a try they have done me good but spro has a great product, tho i have to agree trim the skirt.

I have to agree with Lararus. Hula Popper is an under-rated bait in my HUMBLE opinion. A LOT of folks don't have the PATIENCE to fish it right.

Turnip...check the BASS forum...there are some good frog fishing threads there...but I will answer this one too. Frog fishing has come a long way since this thread was started...mostly the price of the baits. We are no longer limited to a few overpriced frogs(like the Spro and Livetarget). We now have a great selection of frogs, with some being priced a little friendlier. The new Booyah Padcrasher and the Matzuo Kroaker Frog are two economical choices...the Matzuo actually being my favorite. It has a scooped face...like a surface popper...one awesome frog!

Hey...turnip is trying to trip me up...just noticed he's asking about the Hula Popper...hee hee. OK, my best advise for the Hula Popper, change the hook hardware. The stock hardware gives a fish leverage to throw your bait, adding split rings or small swivels will increase landed fish.

Redneck, here's a tip for Scum frogs that will increase the weight so they will cast as far as the heavier frogs. Cut a slit in the back and pack the body with plastic worm pieces...not to many...you still want the body to collapse when a fish bites. Now seal the slit with super glue. The casting distance is increased dramatically.

I don't have much of a problem with casting distance using the Scum Frog. Two of the three ponds that I fish regularly, I can easily cast the Scum frog from bank to bank. The other is so full of stumps and grass, it doesn't take a super long cast to get to where the fish are hiding.
I primarily use 6'6" MH Ugly Stick casting rod, an Abu Garcia Black Max (BMax1) spooled with 20 lb. test Spiderwire Stealth Camo Braid. I like the Ugly Stick because it has a little lighter action in the tip of the rod that makes up for the absence of line stretch. Too, the extra flexibility in the rod tip gives that extra "whipping action" that allows a little more casting distance.

Redneck, you must be talking about a different model Scum frog than I am...the one I have wouldn't go 20yds. before I modified it. Now I can launch it 50yds., just like the Booyah Pad Crashers, Spro frogs, And Matzuos. Where I fish...from shore...a long cast is a must to reach the fish.

Here's the one I'm talking about...don't know what you guys are using...but this thing was a piece of crap 'til I stuffed it...hee hee! You can't even see the slit in the pic...think the flash hid it...cause I could see it when I took the shot. It has a lighter hook than most frogs, and the body is a little shorter to.

I've been using the Snag-Proof frog for years with pretty good success. The snag-proof frog had soft legs instead of a skirt. Just plain green works great. But I found a few odd colors last week at a local store. Pink, Purple and Silver glitter. Can't wait to try those out. Maybe the odd colors will trigger even bigger strikes.

I agree with the spro bronzebacks, great action. Trim the skirts and inch or so. ALSO lake fork tackle has come out with a frog tail trailer hook that REALLY helps with those short strikes.

I don't have much experience with frogs, but I did give it a try with some scum frogs on the Mississippi in 2006...

    Photobucket

I got a couple of blow-ups but never hooked up...

I have a bunch of these frog baits but I have never used them...

    Photobucket

Sooo, last year when I was on the Mississippi again, I bought this puppy and I hope to give it a try this year...

    Photobucket

If not , I'll take it out to the Mississippi again next year for the LaCrosse Member Meet (10 year celebration)!
