I was recently visiting my grandparents and was looking at my grandpas old tackle.  He had drilled holes into the body of some of his old rapalas...so this is weird to me.  He said he used to put blood in there and then put a pipe cleaner in so it would leak out slowly.  Pretty cool idea I thought.  He said it used to work awesome.  Can't wait to try it but might have to wait until next summer to try it if it keeps snowing like it has been.

Musky hunter, just one litlle question on the post you said Blood ( What kind of Blood ) I know your not talking about human blood, but what kind of blood bream, minnow, shad. I have heard of something similar to that, also holes to allow bubbles from the lure.

Sounds like a variation on a sponge hook, like the ones used for catfish. You might be able to find one of those in the right size and try that out too.

perhaps a syringe that you can get from a vet or the pipe cleaner would soak it up . It also may be corrugated blood .

Rapala has always been my favorite lure but never tried the blood trick but I will.  One of the least tried ideas is tying that loop knot--years back they included directions on how to tie it in the box.  I have fooled around with painting some red around the gill plate area and one of my favorite tricks is drilling a few small holes toward the rear to make it sit up.  This can also be done by adding lead strips to the back treble hook.  Late in the day big bass seem to like knocking them out of the water.  Good luck and good fishing.  Uncle Tom
I built my own lure company as a young man--thus the name UncleTomsJigs. It grew so well I decided to give it up and go fishing with family, friends and especially grand children. I became disabled as a United Methodist Pastor IN 2002 and retired here in Coastal Georgia on a 10 acre lake where I continue to fish despite my disabilities. My wonderful wife and I enjoy fishing together. God has blessed us in so many ways and we pray the same for you. I am excited about having so many new friends all over this great country.
