Been having fun by going back to lures from my youth:
Plastic Worm: Creme Worm rigged with double or triple hooks in black or natural earthworm colors
Spinner baits and spoons: Hawaiian Wiggler, Johnson's Weedless Wing, Little Cleo
Topwater: Diamond Jim Rattler, Bomber Spin Dandy, Rapala, Bagley's Bang O Lure, Heddon's Tiny Torpedo
Crankbaits: Broke back Mirror Lure, Diamond Jim Lures, South Bend
Other Favorites: Creek Chub
Favorite of all time is: Buck Tail Jigs (hand poured & tied)
Earliest Memory was Cane Pole with bright red ribbon tied on string, no hooks, red fin pike and eastern chain pickerel with all those sharp little teeth would hit it and hold on long enough for you to get them on the bank and in burlap bag--worked best if you had a bag man.
What were some of your older favorite lures? Uncle Tom |
|
| I built my own lure company as a young man--thus the name UncleTomsJigs. It grew so well I decided to give it up and go fishing with family, friends and especially grand children. I became disabled as a United Methodist Pastor IN 2002 and retired here in Coastal Georgia on a 10 acre lake where I continue to fish despite my disabilities. My wonderful wife and I enjoy fishing together. God has blessed us in so many ways and we pray the same for you. I am excited about having so many new friends all over this great country. |

May I remind everyone that this is about favorite brands. Not your favorite lures in the brand! |

Very hard for me to decide just on manufacture brand name. It's always just some lures out of each manufacture for me and sometimes maybe it's just one particular lure for that brand. I guess I may have a preference for Owner and Yozuri lures. |

Plugs: a close running between Rapala and Bomber. Smallies where I live tend to seek out Bomber's in baby bass color, so I'd go with Bomber.
Spinner: Strike King has been good to me
Plastics: Zoom, by far
Jigs: never caught a fish on one even though I have 10 in my tackle box |

Sorry this is such a generalized topic. I know that some people may have several favorite brands for a specific category, so feel free to include them.
Wellsley, are there any particular brands that seem to work better for you than others? |

My favorite brands are Rapala, strike king, Berkley, Gamagatsu, and Koppers Live Target. Koppers is a newer brand that makes swimbaits/crankbaits/frogs. |

Plastics- Yamamoto/Berkely Spinnerbaits- River2sea Buzz baits- Strike King ( I don't know what a plug is) I use poppers and there are too many good ones to limit myself to just one brand but if I had to choose, River2sea Poppers. And I don't use jigs they are totally overrated. |

I cant find every color combo I need with just one brand so I tend to use a mix of brands. Hard baits consist of mostly Bandit, Bomber & Bass Pro cranks, Cotton Cordell lip-less crank, Bill Lewis Lures Rat-L-Traps, Arbogast Jitter Bugs, Booyah spinners & buzz baits, Heddon Super Spooks and a mix of Bandit and Bass Pro chuggers. Soft baits consist of Zoom 9.5in worms, Culprit 7.5in worms, Lake Fork craw tubs, Strike King Bleeding Tubes, Bass Pro fluke jerkbaits, Zoom & Strike King frogs, and Yum Wooly Bug crawfish looking lures. |
