Anybody remember that ZZ Top album, Tres Hombres? I sure do...it was my first ZZ Top 8-track...Blasting through a Kraco car stereo in my dad's old Ford F-100 pickup. Well...these three lures are as classic as that album...actually a hole lot older! From left to right we have a Creek Chub Injured Minnow, a Shakespeare Slim Jim, and a Pflueger Pal-O-Mine. These were auction finds...still looking for another Tres Hombres 8-track tape!

Something I forgot to mention...these classics will flat catch fish...if you can pick one up for a few bucks...fish it! You won't be disappointed.

Talking about 8 tracks dates you pretty badly Mo! I skipped the 8 track thing and went straight to cassettes and they are history now!

PG...you sound like my brother. He too scolded me for buying "outdated" 8-track tapes when I could buy "modern" cassettes. By the time everyone figured out why the cassettes sounded so bad(signal to noise ratio sucked, bad channel crosstalk, slow tape speed) it was to late to go back. It really didn't matter anyway...digital audio was already on the drawing board.

P.S. Tom...you never did mention the lures...what do you think of the lures?

I'm old enough to remember when 8- tracks were the new thing. Heck, my sister and I used to turn to KOMA in Oklahoma City in the evenings because all of the local stations had shut down for the night. Back then all the car radios were AM.

I remember the 8 tracks also! I also remember when reel to reel was the top of the line for home stero systems! That being said, I think your lures are sharp! Great for collecting or using out on the water! I have often thought about how neat it would be if at one of the member meets there was a contest for the most fish caught using a pre 1965 bait...Woo wee!

By golly turnip noticed the lures...hee hee...thanks buddy! A good point turnip, about the contest using vintage tackle. Why not? We have those "cowboy action" shooting contests...using old style guns.

Hello to all fellow fisher persons. I liked the idea of a vintage lures fishing but was sad for a moment cause my lure buying didn't start until the mid 1970s. Then I remembered an old lure an old fishing buddy gave me. It sat in my tackle box for over 20 years, having used it only a few times without success. I even sprayed painted the belly with international orange trying to attract pike in South Dakota, nothing doing. In 2005 in preparation for a fishing trip to Canada I cleaned all of my lures and made a surprising discovery. What I thought was a Rebel lure turned out to be a very old Rapala lure. I looked it up online and it turned out to be a rare, hard to find, discontinued in 1952 lure. It is valued at $500.00 It was the exact model and colors I had in my tackle box. I got most of the paint off except for a tiny spot. I changed the split rings and hooks to Gamakatsu hooks. I told my cousin about it. When we got to Canada my cousin did not want me to use it for fear of loosing it. On the last day there I used it and caught some fish. Last September, 2011 I was up in Canada again with family and friends. Every cast produced fish. My brother was in the boat with me. He was using a snap on his lip less cranks without getting any bites. I suggested he take off the snaps and use a loop knot. He started catching fish, pike, large perch, bass and he was happy. Suddenly he started getting bit off by the pike. He lost 4 Spro Aruku 75 lipless baits. I took my rare Rapala out of the water right away. I didn't want to push my luck on losing it. I changed lures caught fish and was also bit off. I was glad I had put away the Rapala. Long story short, that old Rapala still catches fish and lots of them. I wish I had a tackle box full of those old producers. Tight lines always
