Hey everyone I am looking to try out buzzbaits but have no experience with them. I almost always fish spinner baits on a shimano voltaeus rod with caius 6.5:1 baitcaster. Looking for any info on type of line to use(suffix and trilene 12lb atm) and brand/quality buzzbait suggestions. Also what would be the best presentation for this lure? Should I treat it like a top water spinner bait and burn or slow roll it depending on fish activity. TY

czepp, fish 'em just like you fish spinnerbaits....only difference is they stay on top. Your spinnerbait equipment will work great for buzzbaits. As far as line, lots of guys like braid, but I prefer mono for buzzbaits. I like the cushion of a little line stretch with this high speed presentation. And use a trailer hook...buzzbaits are famous for short strikes. Last but not least, if you like the topwater excitement of buzzbaits, try a Jitterbug. It is a similar presentation...but you can slow it down...sometimes all the difference.

Buzzbaits are very similar to spinnerbaits, but can't slow roll them. It's possible to let them sink/dive with a very slow retrieve, but the most fun is simply topwater fishing it. Some buzzbaits takes some effort to keep them topwater, others seems to litterally bob up to the top.

Good spots to try for them are buzzing it around structures or simply retrieving the lure off parrallel to shoreline or weed lines.

As far as lure selection, sometimes the no name brands that you find just hanging on the walls of the baitshop will be the hot lure. I merely buy what looks good to my eye.

Almost forgot the most important aspect of buzzbait fishing...always keep a slow presentation(plastic worm/creature) rigged and ready to toss at missed strikes.

Would any of you guys recommend a twister type trailer? I am going to try and make a few of these and was wondering if a twister or worm typ trailer would work...

    Turnip,
If I was going to put any kind of trailer on a buzzbait... it would be a trailer hook!

How about a twister on the main hook?

yes Pete a plastic trailer will help slow down the sink rate some . Some folks even drill a few holes in the blades to make a bubble trail .
The noisier they are the better . you can bend the arm down so the blades tick the wire shaft or get one with a clacker .
Take a kid fishing , If the fish aint biting entertain them. Photobucket
