Give us a little more information and we can give you a better answer. What type equipent do you use and what type water ( river lake pond clear water muddy water) do you fish? What species panfish do you target, bluegill, crappie, perch ect...?

For bluegill ( and all types of fish ) my favorite is a fly. Fly fishing for gills is a lot of fun. For crappies a jig can be hard to beat. Never targetted perch.

As I stated earlier, give us more info and we can give you a better answer.

you can even use some fly paterns .

ice jigs tipd with waxies

freeline a cricket or grass hopper if theres a inflow or outlet to create curentor if you fish from a dock bridge or boat .

I would also suggest you drop down to 4 or 6 pound test line. I have found that I get lots more bites with lighter line. Often times I'll drop down to 2 and on occassion 1 lb. test line, however, with muddy water slightly heavier line is OK.

I have good results with Rebel or Repala floater/diver minnows in the 1 1/2 inch size. Early and late when the fish are crusing shallow I work them around weeds, docks ect. Cast it out let it sit twitch it a couple of times. If nothing takes it on the surface bring it back with a slow steady retrive. I also troll it a lot, very slow with my electric motor. Later in the day use a three way with a bell sinker and slow troll it. With a 1/2 ounce sinker and four lb test you can get it down about 12 ft.to 14 ft. We catch a lot of big gills and white perch with the bonus of some white bass, largemouth and crappie. For some reason the gills and white perch like a slow steady retrive better than varried. Everything above I want to DITTO!. I would like to add the larger gills are usually a little deeper and farther away from the bank. The are very skittish too. You need to sneek up on them like a bushwacker would <!--graemlin::D-->. There is alot to say about luck when fishing and all you need to do is better your odds. I would say the best odds are night crawler on slip bobber set at the right depth, however on any given day one of the above could out fish the crawler.
