well last night ( more like evening ) I hit up one of my favorite slab gill lakes and man it was nice, not to hot not to cold and alot of fish as normal. since it was summer ( seems like mid summer ) the gills seem to have been deep. well I remember an article about floatin' artificial baits in weedy cover. well I tried this or a dozen variations and managed to get it to work.
nothing huge was landed but never the less I managed to add something new to my arsenal.
Have any of yall ever tried this? |

i have a time or 2.....i can always get a few big gills....most of the time the bigger gills----- just don't get allot of them. try small plastics on the surface...it works pretty good too. it is hard to cast them thou and keep them on the surface. |

A casting bubble like the ones fly fishermen use is a big help with this. Tom |

it's a small-- most of the time clear -- bobber, that looks like a bubble when floating on the water. they look like a big tear drop most of the time, but you can find round shape ones too. can find them in most fly shops-- these will be the small round ones -- our at gander, cabalea's, use to be able to get them at walmart or kmart or any of those type of stores. it's just getting harder to find them in those type of stores. but you still can in some areas. |

Most casting bubbles can be partially filled with water to add weight and reduce buoyancy. Tom |

I fish a private lake here in mid MO that has an over abundance of water lilly and other vegetation. Something I have had success with is to dangle a beetle spin under a float. I have had pretty good results with this when nothing else was working.
