Well i was thinking (Oh NO!) and i came up with this, These are for pan fish of course....

A Hardbait with a small slipshot to make it a bottom dragger and to make it cast farther i use 6Lb Test with both of these..

And this is a 1/64 Ounce Black Grub with a Small jig hook (I think) and 2 small slipshot weights  with a 6LB test...

depends on if ya need the weight for casting or getting yer bait down deeper. sometimes you will need the weight and if you don't need them take them off

I have heard of people putting a weight on in front of a lure, as you did with the little plug, to get casting distance, to make it sink and as it sinks or is floating off of the bottom, it has the physical attitude of a small fish eyeing something on the bottom,

I have used rigs like that . Working them across the bottom slow and it has worked great.
