This picture is from Rainy Lake, Canada. Not sure of the date, but the details that I have are that the angler hooked a 36" Northern and this monster hit it. The lucky so and so was able to land both fish in one net. The big one was mid 50's for pounds and inches.

    Neb. Walleye:

Thought you might like that. Don't know any details about the equipment used, but a 50+ Northern is a formidable opponent on any tackle. Did you like my Tiger Muskie story? I hope to live long enough to catch a Northern 2/3 the size of that one in the picture. I'm glad you have open water to fish, I am 42*13.127' N (suburban Chicago) and we may or may not have ice, it's day to day.

Guessing by the length of the fish hooked the minnow being used was around 4-5'' the leader the way it is tied looks like it is either braid doubled over then a simple loop knot tied in it for the snap or a limp wire leader material but the main line looks to be 60lb + braid which for the 36'' is heavy line but the other one would of been somewhat formitable if they fight anything like the tiger musky's ive fought or even like a flathead. Id imagine though that the big sucker once he hit the other one attempted to just sit there cause the other fish isnt tore up to bad so he probably pulled him in like you would a water soaked log. Still awesome to see a fish that be considered a real gator, lol.

That fish is in an article on this website.  Well, that picture was in an e-mail that i got along with the pics that are seen in the article.  Apparently Pennaz debunked it and said it was a European pike and the weight was 42.9 lbs with a 52" length or something like that.  I'll try to find the article and post a link.

I will say this...that pic...and about 4 or 5 others of another pike have been traveling the 'Net for the last 5 years or so. That being said...I haven't seen ANYONE on any website CLAIM that the pics were theirs

The pike here dave I thought was a european look at the coloration difference between the  ones originally posted here and the this one is obvious, plus look at the head on the one I just posted and the ones in the photograph, there may different sub-species of european pike  but of the ones I have seen this is the typical coloration.  I also know that water temp amount of time in sun vs shade effects coloring too but the pattern on europeans I guess look like they have bigger spots to me.  I do believe the ones original posted here are the North American strain.

Happy fishing just wish even if it was a european pike someday I can go hammer some of those big brutes.
