We're headin out to a few lakes/ponds this Saturday in the metro detroit area. I mainly fish for Largemouth, so my pike knowledge is kinda weak. Anyone have any ideas for springtime pike bait? The water temps are about 50 degrees around here, and we just got a cold front in yesterday, if that helps any.

1st. yer going to have to fish slow.....might be able to pick up the speed a bit in the afternoon if the sun comes out like they say it's suppose to.

2nd. i would start out with huskie jerk supends in size 6 or 8....perch, smelt or gold would be my 1st choice of colors.

3rd. look for the pike to be around the 1st major brake or back in the back bays with dark bottoms.

also ya might want to try some dead bait, such as smelt on a circle hook...that works this time of the yr. too.

good luck and hopes this helps some

You said Detroit area and I think some of the guys took this to be the Great Lakes and connecting channels. If you are fishing some of the tribs and feeder lakes, check with a local bait shop, they should be able to furnish good advice! Tom

the pike should be up in them feeder creeks and shallow bays now either doing or getting read to do that spawning thing. if they are spawning then the bite is going to be slow for a few days and start picking up in about a week or 2. then you should be able to pick up yer pace and you should see that the suspending minnow style baits holding there own and as the water warms up even more then the spinners will do even better.
