I was just wondering if you guys fish hybrids at night because where I live in new hampshire we only have real stripers and the best way to catch the big ones 40-50pounds is to fish them at night when their most active. Im just wondering if since these fish are hybrids if their also very active at night? And if you havent tried it might be worth a go because all though we can catch schoolies(3-10 pound small stripers) all day the big boys are usually only taken at night. Maybe the same for 'wipers'?

I`v read about how the big ones will hold under the feeding school of smaller striper and wait for easy pickins, so try going deeper if you catch smaller striper near the surface....

mornings works well too!it's just doesn't last as long as dusk/night....

i think if you put a lure in front of a stripers face and it looks half 'right', the striper will eat it, they have too cuz there buddy will eat it first if they don't... they fight for first bite, and i think thats why a realy eratic fast actions works so well(sometimes) , the fastest hungryest stripers will not stop ,it hasta eat!

i'm glad to see someone post in here! lets git this striper section going again!

I fish all nite for them. once they start feeding in top, it gets so noisey. guys I've taken for the first time can't believe now nosiey it gets, and the size of the fish. it sound like someone dropping cinderblocks in the water. you have to fish right up on the banks. if your not hooking trees, your not fishing close enough.

I love how hard they hit, and how fast they run. great fighting fish, and good eatin' too.

Here in KY we fish the wipers the same way ,in the jumps is what we call it. Also after they (disappear) we I catch them on underwater humps and timber jigging a bucktail tipped with a minnow or casting 3 inch or larger Swimbaits in Shad and Mullett colors. Personal best on Swimbait 8 pounds. Catch em and eat em !!

I also fish for wipers in NJ. We only fish for them at night too. The noise sounds a lot like a herd of deer running through the water. But it is the wipers breaking the surface going after the herring that they have corralled against either the shore or a stone berm. They seem to especially like corners where they can close the herring in.
We use small suspending shad raps & cast right into the fury. Then hold on! When you get the fish back to the boat, you will find the lure is head first down the throat of the wiper. They are voracious fighters. It's so cool fishing for them.

My son and I have been out with FearNoFish on a few of those night wiper runs and he's right i was amazed at the noise on the water. let alone hooking one and listening to the drag scream. it is a blast. My lil boat almost ready for the water. i'll be meeting him out there some night and attacking Nockamixon for wipers and stripers.

The winter months here in north Texas seem to be the better night fishing for bigger stripers and hybrids.  Fishing the full moon phase at night during December/January/February below Texoma Dam can and has produced stripers over 40-lbs.  Using 10 to 12 foot "surf" rods and large capacity spinning reels of 20-lb. test with weighted corks and small hair jigs on a drop line are the nighttime ticket when both generators are running.  Once the flow subsides and the river drops to dead low, fishing the deeper pools from the shorelines on either side with large Redfin type lures slowly retrieved on the surface will attract the larger stripers, especially in areas where the flow into or out of a large pool becomes restricted.

Fishing the dock lights on several north Texas lakes (Cedar Creek/Tawakoni for example) have produced larger hybrids.  Generally, tackle is geared toward light, medium action spinning with 8-10 lb. test and small hair/plastic jigs thrown past the light and reeled slowly thru the lighted strike zone.  When the water begins cooling down in mid-October to November, the night fishing can be very productive.

hey redfin jim, welcome to the bb!  it sounds like you are a member of the full moon fishing club already or should be? have you heard of it yet? i bet not unless you have started one already, we just started a FMFC~ full moon fishing club last year, it started  as a easy  date to mark on the calender... all you gotta do is meet up on 3 fullmoons a year,(does not have to be ON the exact full moon, but the weekend closest to the full moon is awsome) with a few buddies and then share the good and bad with us +pix.... i hope this reaches all the states someday and if you ever travel, maybe  a fmfc meet will be going on in that area.... the main perpose is to have fun and share & make new friends...

anyone can join.... here is a link to the topic  http://fishingclub.com/Community/Fo...8422  if you follow the link you might have to relog in, or just goto the photo albums and look in the fmfc section...  I  may need to start a new thread someday

.... the new moon fishin club is being talk'd about as well but it is harder to see, but the bass are spossed to be better then...

redfinjim dont give all your secrets away... LOL you may git to that spot someday and see alot of people and tons of fish being kept... it seems to happen to us in CAalot

tons of people read these but never post, they kinda steal info, but dont say nothin... so we dont tell the waters name as much any more cuz we have noticed it a few times... i dont mind taking anyone fishin in my secret spots...but i just won't tell people as much anymore.....

Here in Arizona the best stripper fishing on Lake Pleasant is usually ater dark. I normally go to the lake mid afternoon to fish for largemouths and crappies, then motor to deeper channels to fish for strippers, whites, and flatheads through the night.    Happy fishing.
