I haven't fished for stripers in lakes but I know that in the summer they will usually be near a dam or the main current source, and usually in deep water. In the Spring they will migrate up the lake and spawn shallow just like largemouth. If you're fishing a lake that has trout, use trout imitating lures because thats gonna be their main forage, otherwise you can use your regular striper lures, live bait, or cut bait that the stripers regurarly feed on in that body of water. This is based on the reports I've read from Liberty Reservoir, MD.

On the lakes here in East Tn .  Once you find the fish all of which depends on water temps and time of year. But generally from Dec -Mar i find them in 20-40 foot of water. Find the bait fish and start trolling with live bait (gizzard shad or shiners) works best unless the fish are hitting on the surface. We also have the power plant discharges that they go to when it gets real cold. I use 8 rods 2 down deep 2 with balloons out the back with small weights 2 as flat lines and 2 on side planners. Normally in the winter time ,which is the best time to fish if you are doing catch and release cause summer time water temps they have a 98% kill rate when released due to stress, they are close to the tail water areas and fairly shallow. There are some of the lakes here that actually closed fishing near dams or aeration tubes to prevent people from killing so many of the stripers during the warm weather months.

I haven't learned the east lakes that well yet but i know a pretty reliable one in middle tn if you want to catch some good eating stripers or hybrids .

i fish strippers in lake pleasant az and it depends on the time of the year i find that fall and winter time the shad are up shallow shad is what u need to find in lake fishing for striper . and with the shad @ the top the i use top water jerk baits(shad ) and be ready cause the action is on fire they start fast and quit hitting just as fast over cast is great , we just had a new state record stripper caught 3 weeks ago durning a strom front 381/2 inches
