Rigging Frozen Bait

Hello Fellow Members, I just recently moved to Northern CA from Minnesota and purchased a boat. I have had little to no luck catching fish out here. I am going fishing this weekend. Fishing reports say that stripers are biting on frozen anchovies. Can someone please give me some insight on how to rig these things so they don't become a huge mutilated mess. What size hooks work best and should I troll these or cast and retrieve. The area I am fishing is a deep reservoir. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I cut the anchovies in thirds and put them on hook in this order . Tail first , middle second,head last. Cast or just drop line over side of boat. Fish at depth fish are holding. Happy fishing. ~N.A.F.C.~B.A.S.S.~BoatU.S.~N.R.A.~A.M.A.~

When I use frozen bait for stripers, it's usually 'chovies. I would use a 4/0 or 5/0 bait hook and insert the hook in the upper body and bring it back through the lower end. After that I'd tie it on with some Magic Thread, cast out, set it and forget it. Hopefully there aren't a lot of mitten crabs around to eat your bait before you can catch that FISH OF A LIFETIME... Real fishermen know when to CATCH and when to RELEASE...

Shredded bait is usually the norm after a few minutes in the water, and should be expected. So check your line every now and then. If trolling, I put the anchovie in a bait holder (i.e. a rotary salmon killer), with two 3/0 or 4/0 hooks in tandem. If fishing a favorite spot or on the drift, I just thread the anchovie with a #1 or a 1/0 hook in the tail end. Which reservoir are you fishing?
