Here in the Chesapeake bay instead of outriggers to provide a wide trolling spread we use ("sometimes called Big Boards") Planer boards. Because we troll very heavy rigs some with up to 20oz sinkers we need planers that will be able to support multiple heavy rigs. You can also run the planers out over a 100 yards per side giving you a tip to tip spread of 200 yards. Thats much wider than than any outrigger can reach. The usual setup is to make a 3 board planer yourself & use weed whacker string or dacron planer board string to connect the planer to a high spot on your boat. Usually the roof or high on a center console T-top. Then we use shower curtain rings & rubber bands to attach each trolled line to the planer board line. If you want to spend the money you can buy line clips instead of the shower curtain ring setup & you can also buy planer board reels made by BIG JON. Its a very inexpensive way to get great results! Feel free to ask any questions you may have.

Heres a single planer to get an idea what it looks like.

The typical spread looks something like this

Anyone that is interested in free plans to build your own set of these planers feel free to ask. It takes about 50 bux worth of materials & about 4 hours to do it.
