How do you prefer to fish trout? On streams, larger rivers, lakes. What method? Lures, flies, bait. Lets see if we can come up with how and where most trout are caught. I like fishing streams with spinners but I am learning how to use fly gear. Lakes and res are fun but seem to lack the challenge that moving water gives you. Fly fishing is fun but I have been unable to set the hook on one. |

I think im with you benwah. I like to target trout on small to medium sized streams with spinners such as a vibrax or roostertail, I have also gotten into fly fishing. good topic. Brian |

Streams and creeks for me. Usually some kind of bait or a fly. |

I fish open lakes for trout. The river that runs through my city is full of trout but it is so polluted you can't even eat them so I don't even bother fishing for them there. Occasionally I will. But Panther Martin spinners are by far the best bait for me. I always catch trout with them. Even bass and bluegill hit them. I used to use Rooster Tails but the freaking blade never spins on them so they are just collecting dust in my tackle box! |

Yes Captain, you are right on the Rooster tail not spinning. I use them some and when I do I give a little jurk after it hits the water and start reeling right as I jurk and that gets it going. Try it and see if it works for you. lowwater |

I've tried that and yes after you jerk the rod tip the blade will SOMETIMES start to spin. But they're so inconsistent. I understand the blade does not have to actually spin to attract the fish because I've caught trout on them when the blade wasn't spinning and even a 2 pound smallmouth bass once but I would rather use a Panther Martin because the blade spins EVERYTIME and besides that the holographic finish is superior to anything I've seen on a Rooster Tail. |

I think the blue fox spinners have the best action, but I like the Panther Martins for the variety of sizes and patterns they come in. Same problem with the Rooster Tails. What river are you talking about Quantum? Just in case I find myself there one day, I'll know not to keep ANYTHING out of it. |

Ha ha it is called the Spokane River. In the state of Washington. The river is very polluted. There have been many sewage leaks before (one that went undetected for months ) but the main reason is because of all the mining in the past. The river suffers from heavy metal pollution and also from phosphorus pollutants from dish washing detergents that have been flushed into the river over the years. The river is good for smallmouth bass fishing though if you are into catch and release. I have caught a 5 pound smallie out of it. There is a picture in my photo album. The pollution doesn't seem to bother some of the hillbilly's in my area however. They eat out of there all the time! That explains why some of them aren't the sharpest tools in the shed though! |

Yeah. Half of the water in the bay area is like that, some places even have signs warning you not to eat anything you catch there. I'll keep that little mental note about the Spokane in the back of my mind. |
