Our lake Assoc. has been stocking Walleye for the past 9 years, bowl-shaped lake with more weeds than rocks, and water colored like beef-bullion (Tom Neustrom), northern wisconsin lake
the problem is no one catches any of them, the DNR has done fish studies and have catch some with their nets ect... so they are in their. whats the best way to go about catching these creatures?

Try fishing close to the bottom with leeches, minnows or worms. Once you find them (walleye like a bit of current, and some chop on the lake doesn't hurt) you could probably switch to artificials. Look for transitions from a hard bottom to a soft one. Always fish the windblown shore. Also, try fishing at dawn and dusk or at night if possible. Good luck. Tom

if i where going to fish this lake i would fish the weeds. we have a similar lake around here lake Chautauqua any how what you need is some weedless jigs in a variety of color and minnows i like the minnows cause it keeps the pan fish away some what. toss the jig in spots where the weeds are not as thick. if you are fishing from a boat look for any type of drop off where the weed edge ends and anchor a short distance from that. if they are active you could take them trolling harnesses neer the weeds edge.

Drift the weed lines using harnesses and experiment with the drift speed, (faster slower)

Put on a slip weight and use a Lindy Rig (the one with the float) or a Little Joe. Tip with a shiner or leech and slow troll or drift through the weeds or along the weed edges.

Try many of the previous tips, especially lindy rigs with live bait such as night crawlers or leeches. Also fish in early dawn hours or after dusk. Walleyes feed mostlty when the sun is not bright. They prefer feeding during the night hours or on dark overcast & rainy days.  Once you locate the Walleyes, jigging for them can also be some fun times.

    .

Good luck and enjoy a nice Walleye fish fry. Take a couple for a shore lunch and release the rest for another great day of fishing.

FE you are making me hungry. I haven't had a good shore lunch in about 3 years. Can't beat a meal of fresh caught eater sized walleye. Tom

Have you ever tried fishing the weed edges. Or find open areas with rock bottom near the weeds. I've found in low light conditions or dark casting a husky jerk across the opening drawls walleyes looking for easy meals. In the weeds try a slip bobber with a very small jig {I use a wobble jig} tipped with a crawler or minnow. a slow up and down movement gets them to slam a bait. Light line is good but in thick weeds you'll need something that will pull them out.www.freewebs.com/knappys/

Don't forget to fish edges, inside/outside turns of weed edges, bottom transitions. Don't foget that the tops of the weeds are an edge themselves! If this and all the other great tips don't work, break out the dynamite and gill nets

what i would so is fish the drop offs with a shakey head jig (like a 1/8 or 1/4 oz) tipped with a gulp minnow or leach. thats usualy works or another thing i would try is get the clacking rap cast it let it sink for about 3 or 4 seconds and reel it in fast a couple times (try casting to the same spot) and then after a couple times cast the same direction diffrent area reel in a little slower so it stays above the weeds but the vibration from it will trigger strikes
fishing is a way of life
