I've always had a hard time catching walleyes during mayfly hatches and i was wondering if  anybody had any good ways of catching walleyes during a mayfly hatch.

Dude it was really, really tough walleye fishing in northern Wisconsin during the middle of May. The mayfly hatch was in full flight when we arrived...we could actually see them hatching from the water's surface and flying away...talk about terrible timing for a walleye fishing trip! Anyways, the only way I could catch them was lindy rigging with leeches very, very slowly. I tried a few other tactics to no avail. I averaged 2 walleyes per day caught with this method...and we fished all day long for 5 days. If you know of another way to catch them during the mayfly hatch, please let me know.

i would fish smaller and slower. small shiners or leaches around 2" so that you are kinda matching the hatch. ive seen guys using mayfly nymph imitations with success. personally i like a black 2in curly tail and as light of a lead head i can get away with. also fish the shiners or leaches on a slip bobber rig around 2ft from the bottom. when the walleyes are on bugs you have to fish slow they don't want to chase down their prey when they can just leisurely pick them off.

Try using the smallest spinner blades in copper brass and gold on a 4 foot leader with a #6 tru-turn hook and a piece of crawler. This works well!
