Thinking of putting a trolling plate on my outboard but hate the idea of having something hanging off the cavitation plate. Anyone have any experience with them?

I've run a plate on my last three boats and haven't had a problem... aside from bending the plates a bit from taking off with them down. The one I run now is hinged in the center to help avoid this problem. It works great! I've also got trolling bags, but prefer the plate as it's much easier and faster to work with. Here's a link to the one I run.. http://www.ironwoodpacific.com/prod...roller.htm

Thanks for the input! I put one last week made by JMS. It has a hole in the center of it and is spring loaded. (Spring tension keeps in the down position.) When you open the throttle the plate raises and is not to affect performance all that much. I'll let you know how well it works over the weekend!

I have been avoiding this thread because I don’t like trolling plate. I heard they put more pressure on the out drive then Hydrofoils. But that is hear say. Have you investigated trolling bags I have 2 28” bags depending on conditions I use 1 or 2 if I use one bag I put it on the same side as the motor I have running and it help keep the boat strait. If you have one motor then put it on the opposite side it pulls to. They work well here is a link if you are interested http://www.walleyetacklestore.com/s...chors.html Thanks Tony NAFC LIFE MEMBER
