Hey eveyone. For those of you who are privilaged to have a river system that produces walleye in large numbers I suggest you get out there and give it a try. As of the past couple of weeks the walleye bite has been non-stop for us here in central Wisconsin. The bite has been strongest in shallower water with depths up to 8 feet. Areas with down timber or lots of vegetation in the water are good spots in the later afternoon into night. However our prime spots as of late have been anchoring at the bottoms of our local hydro dams and papermill dams. Here you can catch them all day. The method that seems to work every time out is use a medium action spinning combo with 8lb. fluorocarbon. tie on a 1/0 hook and about 18in. above the hook crimp on a single 1/2 oz. split shot sinker. Now hook a live minnow about 4-5 in. long(hooking through the mouth or tail both seem to work just as good as one another) and cast it out. If your fishing shallow areas just cast it towards structure and let it sink to bottom. If fishing at the bottom pf a dam cast it into the swirling current and let it drift around. Wait for that little twitch in the rod tip and set the hook. Please remember to pay close attention to the rod as Walleye are such lite biters they can have the whole hook swalloed befor you notice if your not paying attention. So for those of you who haven't tried a method like this I encouragew you to give it a shot and let me know how it goes. Good luck on the water.

Thanks for the advice, I will be on vacation next week and hope to get in some walleye work. I have a few spots picked out on one of the smaller but deeper lakes in the Fox Chain of Lakes in NE Illinois. I'll try your tips alongside my old standbys and let you know what happens. Tom
