I live in green bay wisconsin and just bought a new boat. I have always fished from shore and watched count less people run out to the bay hunting for walleye. The bay is massive where do I begin? And my next question is if this is the place to go fishing , why is no one rushing to green  bay for a summer fishing trip?

Have you ever heard of Bay De Nocs in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan? They hold several National Tournaments there every year.

Hire a guide to take you out there and show you the ropes.
Set the hook and say "I might be in trouble!"

A lot of people swear by Green Bay and yet others swear by the Wolf River System. I would guess it just depends on the time of year and knowing the spots to catch them at. During the summer I hear of more people targeting Musky or Small Mouth out there.

I took some family fishing on Green Bay this past Sunday. We trolled cranks and harnesses and ended our day with 5 nice walleyes, a 23" 6lb smallmouth (didn't know they got that big!), 5 sheephead, 3 nice cats and a white perch. It was my first time there and will definitely be back. Be extremely careful out there though - constantly watch your depth finder. Twice the bottom came up on me so fast I about grounded the boat. Both times we were out in the middle of nowhere around Frying Pan Shoal. There's no marker buoys to help you out for shallow water.

A lot of people fish below the bridge/dam in Depere, ( first dam from Green Bay up river) and do throughout the year get some very large walleyes, but it is mostly a trophy fishery, with very restricted size limits and number of fish limits, ( the DNR is doing this because of the Mercury and other contamination in the river) the fish are not suggested for consumption unless you are out a ways from the river mouth in Green Bay, But if you are looking for size and more catch and release, I have seen many people pull walleyes in the 10 to 12 lb range on a regular basis.

Has anyone launched out of Bayshore? If so, is there a lot of parking or will it fill up quickly? My wife and I are heading there this coming Saturday (7/17) and any information would be greatly appreciated. We plan on fishing the Point Comfort area and it looks like it will be a shorter boat ride to launch from Bayshore than from the mouth of the Fox as I have previously done. Thanks.

Is Green Bay the best walleye spot? That's a good question. If it's close to where you live then yes it's a great spot. Now hire a guide visit local bait shops and talk to as many walleye anglers you can to speed up the learning process. After hearing and learning where the spots are, go out with your boat and fish finder and just look at the spots before fishing.
