A version of this rig was shown to my by Herkel ( One of the greatest carp Anglers I have ever had the pleasure of fishing with ) back in 2005 when I first met him on the banks of the mon river.
once I mastered his version , I modified it to my jerk style of fishing. With this How too , I hope to pass on and show others what a great Carp Angler had shown me.

Click On Pictures to make the bigger!

What you will need for this rig:

    1. a Four Inch Piece of Mono ( I use berkley iron silk. )

    2. A Sixteen Inch Piece of braided Line ( I use Power for this.)

    3. Desired Hook of Choice ( pictured Is size 2 Owner Mosquito )

The First Step is to Double op the Mono ( fold In half ) , once this is achieved then run the "OPEN" ends of the mono through the hooks eye. Once this step is done , Simply slide one end of the braided line through the hooks eye also. as shown in the picture below.

What You should have by this time is shown by the Picture below.

Once this step is complete , we shall move on to the next step.
With this step , simply wrap the long end of the braided line around the "SHANK" and eye of the hook. Give this process five to seven wraps around the "SHANK" of the hook as shown with this next Picture.

Now that this step is completed , your rig should look like this. Please check to make sure it does before moving onto the next step.

next step is setting up the Swivel. A fellow from Kentucky showed me this knot in 2003 and I have used it every since and NEVER had any problems with it or the strength of the "KNOT" Simply "Double Up" the Loose end of the braided line and run it through the eye of the swivel like so.

then Pull the swivel through the loop of the braided line , and Pull tight , then finish off with a simple Knot like so.

You have completed your first Modified hair rig.

With the pictures below , I will show yall how and what its used for.

    1. A Completed hair rig

    2. A baiting needle ( darning needle works fine )

    3. And a bait stopper. this can consist of everything from a blade of grass to a hard piece of plastic to a sliver of tooth pick as shown by this picture below.

    4. bait ( Pictured are fermented corn soaked and cryovaced in Molasses )

next take the baiting needle , and Load it up with bait desired , be sure to leave enough room to be able to place your stopper on. Like so.

Your rig should now look like this.

Now slide the bait stopper into the lil hole you left at the end of the line like so.

If this is done as instructed , you will end up with a finished product like this.

Congrats , you have yourself a fully rigged hair.

    Enjoy , and good luck!

Just a point of curiosity, why use a separate piece of mono (or any other type of line for that matter) for the hair loop when you can either tie a loop at the end of the hook tag or double the hook tag over and accomplish the same thing, with fewer pieces of line to hold in place? ** Speaking as someone with the same manual dexterity as a monkey wearing boxing gloves **

Well , as a carp Angler Such as yourself Someone like myself would think you would appreciate the Simplicity of this answer LOL .

I use this method for a couple of reasons , and they are as fallows:

I love the sheer strength of power pro , it is one of the best Super Lines I have ever tried ,  But it's Limpness of the braid as a hair is NOT what I am looking for.

I love the stiffness of Mono or Flouro , BUT when it comes to the Hook sizes I use ( owner size 2 , 4 , 6,  and VMC size 4 ) the eyes on the hooks are ever so small and 30# mono or Flouro will not fit into them.

As I do NOT fish for Trophy Sized Carp in the wild , Some of my Methods , Means and ways Differ from the "EUROLISTIC" was that most Internet Carp Anglers Use. As A good Friend and mentor Coined the phrase , I am A "EURO LAKER". My Waters are very "Snaggy" and we have an abundant amount of sharp Jagged Rocks and what not , thus why I use heavier pound test lines. I prefer 65 Lb Power pro for My Leader's. So with that said I hope I fully Explained myself and was to the point , Any other questions , Please feel free to shoot me an E-mail or just stop by my site/forum. I am BY NO means An Expert , NOR do I claim to be , So Please remember this , BUT I am always Willing to learn.

    many thanks ,
