I figured I'd post this to see what pound test line everyone uses when fishing for carp. Also , what brand would also be nice to see.

I like 15# big game myself. I'd rather use power pro , but do to the cost and me fishing snaggy waters , Big game does the trick.

so far my largest carp was almost 18 lbs. and belive it or not it was caught using SIX POUND P-LINE the drag was set right and it took me about 15 min. and my son with the net but i did catch it
    the moral of the story:
do you want to HORSE a fish in or try using skill (with the drag properly set) to land it
    the choice is yours !!!

10 lb dark green Stren or Trilene. For some reason when my friends and I go out I'll seem to get more hits and land more fish on the green line compared to their transparent. Could be luck though?

The 7 carp that I caught this year were all on accident while fishing for either bass or cats.   I was using 8lb at the time, but I had so much fun fighting these fish that I would like to fish for them om a regular basis.   They may be ugly but they put up a heck of a fight.     Jason

I use 6 lb test suffix elite..line cast great and smooth....i usually catch carp all year long and have broken some off, wat can i say it's all about the fun and fight..i think any line bigger then 10 lb test is just like a rope tie to a humans feet..they will fight but you will manage to catch the fish......NO FUN...since i use 6 lb test the biggest carp i have landed is 26.8 lbs from the California delta....caught a lot in the 3- 15 lb range.....All caught and release if can..

Honestly its what ever you feel comfortable with. As I stated , I used mono and fluorocarbon as well as super lines. its all in what you like. me , its power pro all the way with a mon or flouro leader.

I went today and had 14# flourocarbon on there and it kept snapping left and right. I had my drag set at about 2lbs but the fish would hit it so hard and fast when I hooked them that the drag would wind then snap. So I went out today and bought 65lb spiderwire camo braid and I'm going to get those suckers tomorrow. I estimate that each one I hooked were at least 25 lbs (because I could see them in the water right in front of me when they picked up my bait).

By the way, it was Berkley Vanish that I was using and I have to agree with some that Vanish is referring to your fish getting away, not the line being invissible under water.

I use 20# Spiderwire (10# dia.) with 10# mono leader, #6 aberdeen hook, and no weight. Add dough-ball and hold on! Fun time has begun.
