After my experience today, I would recommend Uncle Josh Carp Bait (I picked mine up at Wal Mart for around $2-3. I might try to make my own similar mix next time I need some, but I have a feeling this stuff will go a long way (no more than I Carp fish).

Personaly I like dough balls and sweet corn. I get almost all my information about game fish, including carp, from www.fishbase.com. |

I have really good luck using a hook with canned kernal corn. Corn flakes and corn meal with a drop of anise oil for a pint really suckes them in. Carp are vegetarians so meat ,blood balls and catfish type baits really don't work all that good. cornmeal fed worms can work but not as good as kernal corn. |

Sweet corn cernels, yellow, straighte from the can to the hook. By the way, is it true this is not allowed in some waters? And why? |

Day old bread is my favorite carp bait. Tear the crust off, roll up, hook, and hang on! The rest, tear in quarters, pinch two corners together forming a fuzzy tail jig, hook, and hang on! The rolls I put on a #6 Baitholder with an 1/8oz. spit shot about a foot from the hook and a bobber 2-3 feet from the hook. The fuzzy-tails, I put on a #6 Aberdeen with a bobber 2-3 feet from the hook. Ben Bryant

corn catches big ones on hudson river in Peekskill, NY. I use crawlers mostly. Have even caught them around dusk w/a white miller fly. |

Yes, there is a myth that corn harms trout; it doesn't, but many people believe so.
I catch more on sweetcorn, but bigger ones on boiled and flavored deer corn. Flavor with koolaid, or vanilla, or any of the commercial bait flavors (tutti fruitti, pineapple, strawberry are all popular). Scopex is my favorite; it is a bit like vanilla butternut. |
