the largest carp i have caught was about 16 lbs. on a night crawler, in 80 degree plus weather, mid day and, might i add on 6 lb. test line !!!

the best time for carp or for that matter an type of fishing is   WHEN YOU CAN

IMHO  I have had my best luck with wild carp during the evening and at night.  Just from what I have seen and found Carp are most active Not only in the evenin' but late at night also. This is NOT saying you will not catch carp any time of the day , its just my experience.

I would suggest starting out in chumming , baiting up an area  with field corn ( since its cheap ) atleast the day before.

I have had a bunch of sucess using corn nibblets. I've also tried bread and dough balls. Those work well too.

Whenever i go out Carp fishing I usually chum out creamed corn and pizza dough about an hour before sunset. Then i use two rods both with 4oz weights 18in from a trilene hook. I put dough on one hook and corn on the other set both rods in sand spikes and wait it out. Usually they hit right after the sun breaks over the horizon.
