How would you present all of the things mentioned to fish for carp.  Corn, bread, marshmallows?  I just dont understand what to do.  I tried to catch carp in a pretty big pond but eveytime I get anything close to them they swim away.?

Try casting in front of them when they are cruising. If you can put it about 3' ahead without a big splash they will swim right to it. Do not use a heavy weight because they have a tendency to let go if the feel too much resistance.

My first tip would be to chum , then to fish you baits over the chum. for a great read on carp check out http://www.bigezworld.com

in my experiance catching carp i find an area of the lake or pond i commonly see the carp (in my case it was a little inlet off the main body full of logs and cover) Anchor around there or set up camp on the shore and throw some chunks of watever bait ur using in the general area u plan to fish. Cast and look around ive had cases where i see absolutly no carp but after 10 minutes of the chum the whole school of carp is cruising and for whatever odd reason they always jump here. Ive had most success with a bobber i caught 2 ten lb carp this year so good luck to ya and carp are finicky so wait for them to completly pull the bobber down to set the hook.

I usually cast my bait in the general area where I know the carp are. They smell it out and don't need to see it to know it's there. Just make sure the the bait is smelly!   I used this method when I caught a 20+ pound carp last month in Alabama.  Hope it works for you!

If you go to the carp anglers group forum you will find all you need to know under the beginers topic. They are readily attracted to where you want to fish with some chum (check your state regulations chumming is not legal in all states).

another good way is get yourself some quick grits and some instant grits mix them 2 parts quick grits to 1 part instant add a package of jello about any flavor but strawberry is popular mix about a quarter can of creemed corn mix well you can put a couple pieces of corn on your hook or take a corn puff (cereal) and put that on your hook. Use a slip sinker take some grits and pack it around your hook and sinker make sure you pack it tight so it will stay on during the cast. Once it is on the lake bottom the grits will break down and make a little pile of chum with your hookbait in the middle.

Surely check out www.carpanglersgroup.com as stated before there is a TON of info on there

    Good luck and tight lines.
