    I am looking to buy a pair of Sponsoons or get instructions on how to make my own, to add onto mycanoe. Even though my canoe is a wider model I still want to add the sponsoons for more security in rougher water while fishing. Any ideas will be greatly apoprecieated...Dennis/Papa_d

    is this what your lookin for PAPPA? http://www.castlecraft.com/canoe_stabilizer.htm

    the prisce is high but if you git a idea to make them, i would think a heavy gauge pvc, or light metal would work to attach some type of floats to um...? lots of good add on & ideas on that site, i want the sail kit but i'm scared i could git to the back of the lake but not return...i need a sail class or somethin`first...

    try usin 3inch or bigger round pvc 2-3 feet long or longer with caps on the ends as your floats and cut them in half to atach a pvc T to  the middles ,but down size the T fitting, 3" on both sides of the T and maybe a 1 inch on the on the one side, or you can slowly make the pvc smaller with down sized cupplers.... you need a pvc primer & glue, but you could also fill the void in the middle of the pvc with expanding foam... it sounds confusing in writing but it should be easy....

    Thats not it...I have in mind a full length strip of floatation material. Some thing like "Pipe Insulators" that you snap over water pipes. If I can get these in 4" to ^' diuameter and about 10 or 12ft. long. I could split it in half the long way and attach it to each side of the canoe itself. Not on outriggers. I'll keep looking. Thanks for your input;

    I saw posted somewhere an idea about gluing (DUCT TAPE!) kids pool noodles on the sides at the waterline to act as stabilizers.

    Hey papa........i wrote this to you a while ago.........this should be what you want....it should be pretty cheap and easy to find........

    i think someones brain beeps one to many times........anyway, thanks for the back up papa_d.....as for your canoe stabalizer......i haven't done it myself (still haven't made a decision) but i have seen a few canoes around with kids pool noodles on them.......they put the canoe in the water (put your normal fishing load so you sit at your regular level)........make marks at the water line w/ a sharpie or other indelable marker......got home let it dry and clean the strip that is above the marks.....cut the noodle in half lenghtwise and stick it to the canoe with whatever waterproof, extra strength glue/adhesive you like.......like i said, i haven't tried it and i'm sure it won't be as stable as the riggers but the guys i have talked to said it helps

    Thank you so much, Chris. You've given me the drive to go check out a couple differnt options for my problem...I decided to go with the "Swin Pool Noodles". This is as near to perfect for my want.  I purchased 4 noodles at the cost of $1.99 each, a quart of contact cement @ $5.99, and the needed stainless steel 1/4-20 hardware for perminent attachment to my canoe.  A total cost of less than $26.00...Can't ask for more. Thanks again Chris; I'll post a picture when completion of the work is ready.  Dennis/Papa_d  Thumbs Up

    WQell Chris; someone must be looking out for me. A fellow resident in my mobile home park seen me cleaning up my canoe. He made me an offer I couldn't refuse. He sold me a small boat trailer which is near perfect for my canoe. A simple change or two for the canoe to rest on will make it right.  He gave it to me for $30.00 and everything works, including the lights and wench. The original paint is so nice that no painting is required. This will be the extra hand I need in launching and loading I was looking for.  Dennis/Papa_d
