I started fishing with swimbaits about 6 months ago and need your opinion about a new swimbait rod. I fish small to medium-large swimbaits(1/2-4oz) for Largemouth Bass. I would like an affordable one no more than $150. The reel that I want to match with it is an: Abu Garcia Ambassedeur 5600 EXT-PRO round reel. The reel is not very large but is extremely reliable( it is smooth, has good drag and cast far). Here's a picture of the reel and the specifications( the one I own is the PRO edition). Thanks for your help.
5600EXT-PRO (1120077) 7 bearings. Right Hand. gear ratio 6.5:1 / line capicity 12/135. price 179.99 |

Yanosick:
I fish spinning rigs most of the time but do have a rod that I absolutely love, it is a Cabela's XMLti. This is available in a casting version. I would suggest a 6-7 foot version in medium heavy for the lures you plan on. This rod is a bit above your price range, but is simmilar to many $300+ rods from St. Croix and Fenwick and is under $200. It has Ni-Ti guides that are about indestructable and should hold up well to abrasive line like braid. I haven't had mine long enough to judge the wear.
Tom Ps: Stretch your budget a bit, you won't be sorry. I have seen some of these rods in the Bargain Cave. Fishin' fool in NE Illinois |

Thanks for the suggestion( I checked them out and they are on sale), but the only problem is the one that is 7'6' can't handle larger lures(I want a 7'6' rod or 7'10'). Other than that I would get it because it's a heckuva price. I'm still searchings |

I like some of the rods from the web site, but they are a bit above what I want to spend. The search continues. The good thing is I still have time to pick a rod before summer. Does anyone have and opinion on The Nitro Series by BPS. Or if Okuma has good rods. |

Yanosick: I wish you the best of luck, after checking the Cabela's site, there is nothing there for you, this is a shame as the XMLti rods are kick butt as long as they have something that works for YOU! Best of luck in your search.

Thanks. In my other post in the Bass topic, A Mojo Bass rod made by St. Croix was mentioned. That may be the rod I choose. But I am not sure. It does have a sweet price! |

I've composed three rods that would fit my needs based on your opinions 1. St. Croix Mojo bass swimbait rod 2. Okuma Guide Series Big Bait Rod 3. Dobyns Mike Long Signature Swimbait Rod Thanks for your help. I will most likely pick one sometime late next week. You can still post which rod would be best. |

I have several rods with baitcasters on them and I'm partial to the ulgy stik 7' med action. I'm not exactly gentle with them. I target Northern Pike, Lake Trout and Musky. I have okuma, cabela's, pete mania, and big max reels on 8'6", 7', 6'6', 6' rods. You can't beat what you get for the price. Lifemember and Bushwacker SMF upstate NY

Wellesly: I have to agree, the Uglies are impossible to beat even at twice the price. Tom Fishin' fool in NE Illinois |

I've taken a little over a week to decide, but I think this is the rod I'm going to buy I've never used a Dobyns rod, but It's on sale and it fits my requirements. If you used one before( any Dobyns rod) please tell me your opinion. Because I can still pick a different rod if these rods aren't good. Dobyns Mike Long Rod 7'9" Med Hvy Lure Weight: 1-4oz |
