I just picked up 1/2 a dozen of these at a flea mkt in various colors and sizes. I've heard about them over the years but have never tried any. Anyone got any pointers on the best way/water to fish them.

That being said...I have a catalog page that has a chart of the sizes and depths they run...so if you PM me with your email addy I will email you a scan of that chart.

Hey Bob, no I don't. A couple look like they've never seen water. I've got (I guess) the medium and large size. Some painted, some plain ( 8 all told). I can remember hearing about them a bunch of years ago but never paid any attention. I was under the impression they were a Lake Earie walleye type of lure at the time.  Wrong huh. I figured for a $1 a piece what the heck, look good to me. At the same table I picked up an Ambassadeur 822 baitcaster that looks (again) like it's never been used for $10. I'm not a big Abu Garcia guy (preference to Daiwa) but I've got a couple along w/ Shimano and Lews. Just what I needed, another reel......like I don't have enough already.

Thanks for the offer Dave, if I decide to try them out I'll let you know.

I would think you'd fish those like any other crankbait. Either troll them or cast them. I always heard of them growing up as a kid, along with Buck Perry being the father of structure fishing with his spoon plugs, but I don't think I've ever actually seen one other than in mags. I know he had a book about spoon plugging, but that might be tough to get your hands on. I know I saw a tv show on them last year I think and I wanna say they were trolling them on St. Claire for smallies. Good luck with them if you get em wet.

Fishing facts magazine still lists Buck Perry's works in their bookstore.  There is the book on "spoonplugging" and another series of writings by him sold seperately.
