Has anyone used the Berkley Hot Line Cutter? I like the principle and am wondering if it works as advertised or is just another gimmick. Maybe an idea for a field test?

I have been kicking this idea around too...I always melt the end of the braid with my lighter...but that can be a disaster in a strong wind. Ever burn your new knot up? Hate when that happens! I had it in my mind that these things were a lot more expensive. They are only ten bucks...I might just take the plunge PG and try one.

Hmmm..how about using the Berkley Line Clipper...the clipper comes with a little sharp knife that cuts braid with ease...I got it at Walmart for like 4 bucks. I've never burned the end of the braid..I can see my whole line disintegrating! lol

Vito...doesn't the end of your braid unravel...like a rope does?

Nope. Maybe its the braid your using? I use power pro and never had it unravel. Most of the time I'm tying the braid to a barrel swivel or 3 way swivel using a uni knot..or braid to flurocarbon leader using an Albright knot and I cut the tag end pretty close to the knot, never had it slip or unravel.

The braid I'm using?......I'm using Power Pro! But it's not special...Fireline, Tuf Line, Nanofil...any of them unravel on the end. That's why we're discussing a HOT line cutter. LMAO! Vito...you crack me up buddy!

I don't know Mike, I know your a bit older than I, and have been fishing longer than I, but I've NEVER had a problem with my braided line unraveling. Isn't this part of the discussion? Dude..how long has braided line been in existence? Now all of a sudden we should be using a HOT line cutter? I don't recall reading or seeing any special instructions from Shimano that Power Pro or any other braid should be HOT lined cut..or burned with a lighter...I'm thinking gimmick. Save your ten bucks or buy a new lure..

I thought it sounded like a great idea...am I the only one around here that melts the end of braid?

I have had some brands of braid fray or unravel. Can't believe B is using anything but a Palomar to tie to a swivel!
