The important thing with a knot is tying it properly. The best knot in the world isn't worth spit if poorly tied. That said, I use a palomar knot for the simple reason that it is easy to tie correctly and will not slip when used to tie braid, which is notorious for having knot holding problems! If you look on the home page here, there should be a link to Knot Wars which offers comparisons of different knots as well as good how to instructions.

I use Palomar and Trilene knots for tying lures, hooks, rigging. Other than for joining fly lines with backing, and leaders, they are all I use.
