Bringing back a question from before you guys trashed the site, that's a good one. Do you think they're still around to see the replies? Doubtful.

One that was popular and homemade In the San Diego area was a length of PVC duct taped to a longer piece of re-bar.  Size the PVC to the rod butts and make the re-bar long enough so you drive it into soft ground far enough to anchor it. and just enough above the PVC so you can drive it in with a hammer or rock. Keeps the rods up off of the ground.

Wal-Mart used to sell (maybe still does) a rod holder that looked like a loosely coiled piece of heavy wire with a straight end  about 9" long to push in the ground , painted a maroon color . I have 2 of them that I attached to 4' sections of rebar with hose clamps. With these ,the rod handles are about chest high while sitting in a chair while fishing. very practical and comfortable to pick up when a fish strikes.     Happy fishing.

I found some nice heavy duty coil ones at basspro shop a couple years back for 5 bucks a piece, the only thing is the coil part isn't wide enough to hold the thicker rods like cattin and carp rods.
Set the hook and say "I might be in trouble!"

Jenn's Netcraft catalog has some nice stamped steel rod holders with a spike that goes into the ground or can be hose clamped to longer rebar pieces. They sell for $1.25. This is in the new 2009 catalog.     Happy fishing.
