Hi all! If you subscribe to Fishin' Informer, you seen the email about the new Rapala video game, "Rapala Pro Bass". My birthday was last month and I got a little extra cash so I decided to splurge on myself for once and I bought that game. Since ice fishing isn't really big around here I thought it'd help tide the winter blues and thought my son and I could play it together because it has a two player option where one's on the front of the boat and the other is on the back. He already has another fishing game made by Rapala ("Rapala We Fish"), but it's very "cartoon-y" and I wanted something a little more realistic.

I have to tell you it is a blast to play. I bought it to play on my son's Wii and last weekend I stayed up until 1am playing the rookie tour. There's tournament fishing where you have a set time limit (usually between 13 min - 17 mins) with the objective to catch either they biggest limit weight (i.e. bass, musky, pike) or catch the most by volume (i.e. crappie, bluegill) then when the horn sounds you've got 10 minutes to get back to the dock for the weigh-in. Then there's free fishing which is why I primarily bought it for, where you can just go to the lake, explore, try new bait. All the baits are by Rapala brands; Rapala crankbaits, TriggerX plastics, VMC hooks, and Storm lures. The lakes are real too; Lake Fork, Lake Erie, Lake Mead, Lake Champlain, etc. And even Ranger boats.

I know most are probably not into video games, completely understand that. I'm a mid-30 dad with a stay at home wife, and with two little boys and everything else going I hardly have time anymore and just don't have the interest in games like when I was younger. I bought this more for me and my oldest son to play together during winter more than anything. If you have a Wii in your house or kids or grandkids do, might be a nice gift for Christmas. Something you can play together to get younger ones exposed to fishing. If they like fishing in a virtual world this winter, first thing next spring now let me show you how much fun the real thing is.

All this is, if you're into video games or you're looking for Christmas gift idea and are wondering about if it would be worth it I'm telling you it is a good game to buy for an angler or a future one.

Hope you understand I meant no disrespect to age foxman. Just acknowledging video games are not for everybody, but those that have access or are looking for holiday gift ideas wanted to let everybody know that the $50 would be well spent and not wasted on a bad game that's no fun to play.

I own Rapala Fishing Frenzy for the Wii.  It's a pretty realistic game, other than the fact that my record Largemouth Bass on the game is 49 lbs!

I haven't seen the new one yet.  Do they carry them at Meijer?

Thanks for the info armstrong.j, I have been looking at this game for a while now, I just havent been able to make the plunge and buy it and a gaming system. Now that they have made internet poker illegal in my state, I am looking for something else to occupy my free time! I think I'll take a more serious look at this game. Does anyone have any advice on Hunting games? There's a few on the market, but alot seem to have bad reviews.

If you own a Wii, I would recommend Cabela's Big Game Hunter. It comes with a shotgun attachment which is fun to use.

i just got it and think they made the game too easy. 6 hours into the game and im 85% done with the entire game. wish there was multple seasons and you can play season after season advancing and making the game alot harder. played the lengendary tournament and it was a breeze to beat that tourny. ive caught the monster fishes in lake minnetonk and lake mead(took less than 10 mins or so to find it). is the game fun? yes it is! alot funner than most of the fishing games ive played so far. i love how you can boat around most of the lake(tonka) if not all and fish. i like how theres a fish finder for when you are cruising around. didnt really like the fishing pole so i threw that aside and continued using just the controller.

Definitely agree gk, it's pretty simple and not very deep, and I'd agree the tourney mode is too easy. I don't think in a tournament I ever went more than a few yards form the launch and won almost every tournament. But it's fun enough to play, beats the winter doldrums.

I still think 60 bucks is too much for a fake plastic rod and a game with shoddy graffics
