I would do it again in a hearbeat. In my opinion just the information on here is a big plus. you also can get your money's worth with the mag and life member gifts in a fairly short time. I don't know how old you are but if your fairly young you will have the mag coming in for a long time. I have been a lifer for 12 years and have more than made up for the output of funds just in the mag. If you think about how many actual members there are compaired to complaints it seems that the number of unsatisfied members are small. again this is just my opinion.

The bulk of the complaints that you see involve members who joined for the "free field test items" and are disappointed that they haven't received a new kayak, bass boat or trolling motor in the first year of membership. If you want free tackle and gear, don't join. If you are an angler who wishes to discuss tactics and gear as well as general fishing chat and receive a pretty decent magazine then climb aboard! Most of the folks that populate the forums (worth the price of membership) are avid anglers with a wealth of experience to share. The product testing and free gear is just a bonus. Do the math. Brian has been a lifer for 12 years. 12 years X $14 (the average subscription price of a fishing mag) and you end up with $168. Add in the access to the forums and it is $300 well spent unless you are expecting to die in the next few years. I am amazed at the number of members that complain but have never used the forums for anything else but a place to squawk about the fact that they have been a member for 6 months now and have yet to receive a product test. I waited almost 2 years! Spend a bit of time on the forums and THEN make up your mind. You will find the club is a bunch more than field testing! Tom

When I first joined, I wanted to become a life member right away. I was told to wait for a year. It was almost a year later that the life membership was offered to me when my first year was going to expire. I was kind of new to fishing and very knowledge hungry back then. I've learned a lot since then and continue to learn new things.

BOTTOM LINE IS THIS CLUB OFFERS YOU A LOT OF OPPORTUNITY THAT YOU WOULDN'T HAVE WITH OUT IT. The more friends you make the more value the club has to you.

Here is how I look at it . I get a magazine, a opportunity to win free stuff and some of that stuff could well be worth the cost of life membership.  Heck you may even win more then once.
I know several members who have won the big fish monthly contest and gotten nice stuff because of it.
Then there is the forum that lets me share and learn new things and make new friends .
One never knows were one friendship may lead.
Free TACKLE from other members yep it dose happen. Some of these folks fish tournaments some are tackle makers others just want you to catch fish too so they give you the hot bait.
I have gone on free guided fishing trips.
Received a Free place to stay well out of town fishing . Free boat use, gas, bait, lunch.
Discounts on tackle from other members. A chance to barter for gear and other items.
Recommendations on gear to buy which saved me a lot of money
    and  disappointment of faulty gear.

Take a kid fishing , If the fish aint biting entertain them. Photobucket

I became a life member because it was easier than trying to remember to keep my subscription current. I didn't get to the bulletin board for several years. I have enjoyed the magazine and the BB and there are some great people here/

I haven't upgraded yet, but I plan to in the future.  The only thing holding me back is the price.  If it was cheaper, I'd' become a lifer right away.

Hi Fisherfanatic. I would tend to agree with you on your statement. with the economy what it is right now if I had to do it over I would be a bit hesetant about signing up to be a lifer. When I signed up I had a little more extra to play with than I do now.
