Hi gang: It's been awhile since I posted to the 2010 meet thread I've been busy working around the house LOL now that the kids are back in school I might be able to get out fishing LOL Reminder: One of the fun things that we talked about doing for next year at the 2009 meet was putting together a LC members only recipe book of the specialty dishes everyone brings each year of which we shared together at the pot lucks .. Lazarus (Ray) posted on the 2009 thread that he is willing to put together a NAFC LaCrosse Meet cookbook to be passed out at next years meet. If you would like to contribute a recipe or two or three, please email them to Ray at raybebee06@comcast.net. Please keep the portions to four or less. This cookbook will be for meet attendees only. Please include your NAFC screen name, your real name and your state of residence. Take Care and God Bless "Friends are GOD's way of showing us that we don't have to fish alone" "Take a child fishing"

Okay folks, I'm still waiting for your recipes to put in a book to be handed out at the 2010 La Crosse Meet. So far all I have are a couple of my own and Rod Tender's much sought after meatloaf recipe. If I don't have enough, I can't do this. Send recipes in a P.M. or to my email if you have it.
This book will take some time to make and I'll have to fit it in among all the other things I do.

Hi Gang; WOO HOO !!! Game on just got a call back from the campground ..I'm locked in is it July yet come on spring !!! Just a reminder for everyone new and old: To reserve a campsite for the 2010 La Crosse Get Together Call : the Goose Island Campground at 1-608-788-7018 after January third 2010 make sure to tell them that you are with the NAFC so they can offer you a campsite close to the group area. My brother & I & Bob & my husband went to a fishing show today to book our dates for our fishing trips on Lake Michigan this summer.. We booked 2 Perch trips & 2 Salmon & Trout trips.... Guess who we saw there ?? Get The Net, he was walking around looking for a shelter for ice fishing.. He looked real good from having his neck surgery !! He hopes to make it to LaCrosse he said... |

ahutchison, Welcome to the club and thank you for your interest in our meet. The ultimate goal of the meet is to meet with fellow members to relax, catch a few Fish, and share a story or two around the campfire. There are no set rules at the La Crosse meet for fishing (other then having a valid fishing license and adhering to the local size & bag limits) we do not have tournaments so there's no pressure to catch fish or special equipment needed bring what you have it's just members getting together and having a great time on and off the water. Here's a brief timeline of activities: Wednesday Members arrive throughout the day & setup camp, meet & greet with other members, help launch boats, or go into town to get supplies for the weekend etc. At 6:00pm we re-group for the first of the hosted nightly comfort meals at the host site. After dinner some member head back out for a little night fishing others fish from shore while others sit around a blazing campfire and share stories. Thursday through Saturday Is up to each member as to how they want to spend the day some Member's pair up and fish together, others just relax and visit around camp or fish from shore, some go site seeing, shopping and etc in town. Sunday Is the last day of the meet where members say their goodbyes! At breakfast before packing up for the trip home. Meals: As in the past a group of us will again host a group breakfast for members and their familys that attend the meet at 9:00 am each morning . We will also be hosting nightly comfort meals Wednesday night through Friday night at 6:00pm. I will post an update with more info on the meals / menu as we get closer to July!! Saturday night Is our signature ** POT LUCK NIGHT ** at the Campgrounds Main Shelter here we ask that members bring a Meat of their choice to grill for themselves and a dish to pass for the Group. Afterward we will have the drawing of names for door prize's etc. Also on Saturday, after the potluck dinner, there will again be a Worship Service with communion for those who wish to attend. We hope that all will join us in giving Thanks to the Lord for allowing us to share in the fellowship we enjoy each year at the meet. Hope you can join us ! Again thanks for your interest, if you have any other questions please let us know ? if you have time check out our past meet topics 2009, 2008, there are some great pictures and stories posted by member under each of the area and event. Take Care and God Bless

We may be one month closer, but on Feb. 28th, I'll be one yr older . # [53] Not sure if that's a good or bad thing though. Will fish "Tremble" when they hear my name at La Crosse, or just say "Well, he'll have one yr. slower reflexes setting the hook" Guess I'll have to be there to answer that one. |

I sure hope you guy's have better weather than last year - It was COLD...... I missed it last year because #2 favorite daughter moved from IA to Green Bay , Except for the first day...... but at least now I know how Cheri's tent is set up properly I cannot make any promises, but I hope to be able to fish with everybody this year.... The above said daughter informed me awhile back that she is expecting my 1st grandchild (son) this Sept. so things are pretty much up in the air as far as plans go Later guys |

YAHOO,... Everything has fallen into place the last 48 hrs., and I will be able to be at the 2010 La Crosse meet. I am sure the fish off the point at Deb and Trev's [2] camping spots won't like hearing this. Have even made my room reservations at the Welch Motel for 7/13-18/10. Plan on bringing all my inventory of plugs and crankbaits with me. If anyone wants any rods, reels or other type terminal tackle to look at or buy, just post here, or email/message me. |

Hi ev1. This might be a good year for my husband and I to make it to lacross. We would only be able to spend a day and I need to know if they rent camp sites out by the day or can I just park the car in a lot (a "lot"of fish hopefully) and join the crowd at the shore line?. I'm looking forward to getting to the river this year now that were living back in wis. (Hey there musky girl) |

Thanks bottomline, After I posted last time I found an oil leak on the top of the manifold to my car so if I can get the leak stopped by july I'll do all I can to get to the river. I hope to see everyone there if I can make the drive so I guess it's time to go tighten some bolts and sop up the oil, or maybe I'll go sop up the oil and then tighten some bolts. Thanks a bunch too for letting Cheri know I posted a hello to her. I will have to keep a marbel eye open for her if I can ever remember to turn on my yahoo. HAGD ............. |

HI Cheri. So great to hear from you again. I don't think an oil leak will slow me down, (not like it's a mile under the water) And David is all for going this year after he had a kidney removed so it looks good for us. He's not much of a camper and after the last time he pitched a tent on a hill I'm all for hotels now. lol lol wanna talk about rolling outta bed . hey thats a nice smallie I see in your profile. guess the ones with teeth had the day off huh. See you in about a month. Stay healthy up there and I'll do the same down here. |

Hi Stephanie - the smallie in that photo is from a week long trip to hayward a couple years back that I went on with Angry Bob. We were targeting the bass that week and nothing but. There is a couple nice (and reasonable) motels down the road from the campground......... |

Dear Friends,... Yesterday I learned that my father has a small tumor on his lung, and problems with a kidney. Test will have to be done to see if anything is cancerous or not. He has been having stomach problems lately, and this is what a Cat Scan revealed. He also has some bone spurs in his back, but little I know can be done for them. I am still planning on coming to the La Crosse meet, but may travel lighter this yr. in case I must return home in case of an emergency. I am bringing my reel and rod repair kits as usual [I always fix something for one or more] and I am bringing what lures, plugs, crank baits, and terminal tackle I have available. I am going to leave any extra rods and reels for sale to members at home this yr., unless you wish to contact me ASAP[or post here on the meet section] about bringing something to look at. Please forgive me if I bow out of the meet, or seem on edge if I do get there.. Dad will be 80 this yr in Oct. and now coming up with these medical problems wasn't expected by me. I just have a bad feeling about this recent discovery. |

Thanks Everyone,... Dad was looked at by a Dr. today and tissue samples were taken. Unless something terrible comes up in the next few days, I will be at the La Crosse meet as usual. I don't know how long it takes to determine if the samples are cancerous. He will have to have surgery to have the tumor removed from his kidney anyhow. Right now it looks like it will be a whole month and a few days before any surgery can be scheduled, and a stay of 7-9 days in a hospital. Fortunately the hospital is only 4-5 miles from my Apt. Mom will stay with me while dad is in the hospital. After that it will be at least [2] more weeks [or more] recovery at home before the Dr. will let him do anything too physical. So the last of July and most of August will be a busy time for me helping them. I have self elected myself to help mom and dad with anything I can, including mowing the yard after dad has surgery. I hate to recover at home like anyone else. I know it will be torture on dad as he won't even be able to fish for at least [2] weeks while at home. |

Why is MG so bad? She not only has the biggest Catfish caught at the LA Crosse meets, [so far] she also likes catching Musky [elsewhere], LM and SM Bass, and Bluegills. Heck... Anything that will bite her line. Plus she has HER own boat [watch out fish] and also a panfish Tattoo just above one ankle. She also makes some mighty mean [tasty] pies for the pie eating contest, and for dessert at the meet itself. Plus being able to get through all the medical and financial troubles the last few yrs., I say watch out for this gal. She's one mean survivor. A Queen of/on the water. [so to speak] |

Hi Cheri, and a BIG hello to you all. Cheri I wanted to let you know it doesn't look as if I'll make it to the meet. David has two VA appointments later this week and his follow up for his cancer surgery is on friday to check if they got it all. Can't miss that one and he won't be feeling well for a day afterwards. By the time we could get there everone would be on thier way back so all I can do is say good luck to every body who's going and I wish you all the best fishing the river has to offer. Hope the river isn't too fast or high after all the rain. Now go and carry that big stick into the night and while giving the boys a bit of a fright, let it be known accross this great land that musky girl swings the biggest from her hands.... lololol |

Thanks PSG. Preliminary testing showed no return of my husbands cancer and all organ function back to normal, As normal as he'll ever be, and that means no chemo which makes us both happy. I told him I would shave my head if he lost his hair over this so needless to say I'm happy I still have mine. It gave me night mares about pool cues and bowing balls . He goes back friday to get the official test results so maybe I might be able to talk him into taking a long drive on saturday so we can at least visit with ev1. If not I have plans to go out and fill my freezer with marble eyes and my deep fryer with carppie. ummm ummm ummm yummy!!!!! Have a fantastic day PSG and again thanks for the post, It's comments like that which brighten up the board . Now if someone in lacross would post a few pics of the giants they're catching I might not feel so guilty about catching all these bass out back. They're stacking up around the moss and cold water spring that feeds the lake and my arm is getting tired from all this lifting ........... |

Here is an update for those of you watching this thread...I called Canepole, talked with several members there and I was told that several tents were flooded, tents & poles broken / torn, but no one was injured! In fact, they were in the process of making breakfast!
Best of luck everyone! Have a great Meet! |

Hey to all from Ga!!!Has there been any discussion/leaks for the location of next years meeting?? I would like to get some Ga folks in/on the band-wagon for a trip to the next meeting. I actually work for a company located in Black River Falls Wi. (45 min. or so drive from LaCross) and wanted to come this year but was too late to get my plans together. I'm a relatively new member however am enjoying the club.....have already gone "Life Member" And am looking forward to getting more involved in some way, form or fashion! Any heads up would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Greg |

Hello Greg. I have yet to go on a jaunt with the group here in laCross but if it's anything like the last two years I would start planning with the boss for the week of July 13th. They have the fishing trip on the same time frame each year since I can remember the 2nd wendsday of july. Next year that falls on the 13th of july and they should be there "officially" from then till the next sunday. Untill you hear from muskygirl or someone else more involved with setting the time though I would only use that date for a good estamate. Hello to you and all your fellow georgians from us here in wisconsin. I'm here in hartland and someday hope to make it to the island too. Take care and I hope you get the exact info you need soon. Watch for it here. I'm sure Muskygirl can't wait to get planning it and posted for next year already. |

Well, another member's meet is now in the books and embedded into my memory. I began my trip on Sat, July 10th, 2010 at 8:30am. With boat in tow, I headed west 129 miles to Goose Island Campground where we hold the yearly meet. After a couple wrong turns along the way, I pulled up to the camp office at noon on the dot. Once checked in, I found Dave (davesett2000) and John (bottonline) getting their sites ready. Once I pulled up to mine which is right on the shore of the Mississippi River - I found that the weeks of rain prior to us getting there caused the river raise high enough that we only had half a site to use. Tents were pitched and cars unpacked, dinner plans for the night were to just go into town for Chinese.
My site

John checking out the high water

Dave taking a break

First night sunset

Sunday found us sleeping in and then working on getting ready boats for launching so we could park them on the shoreline and more unpacking. For supper I made us all some slow cooker brats, kraut, and summer pasta salad. The coons later that night found a stash of not properly put away trail mix, bag of candy and a bag of marshmellows. :rofl1: :cussin:

Monday was finally a day to get out and fish. Boated on my end were 4 smallmouths during the morning trip and 20 plus bluegills and perch.

A photo of me and the NAFC traveling tie

Monday night I made my saucey sauce BBQ chicken legs with fries and corn for the crew. The coons again found away to break into a locked cooler and took off with eggs, lunch meat, and a pound of butter.
After dinner, I hooked up with Larry - (FlatheadWI) in hopes of spending the night hunting for a HUGE flathead to out do last years. But due to a major boat problem, we had to call it quits after the first spot we checked out.

Tuesday was spent just enjoying the scenery and weather and the roaring fire as I wasn't feeling the best and really wiped out from the past couple of days - Steaks along onions and mushrooms, salad, and fries is what I had planned for the group for supper - yum yum.

Wed found us out on the water and waiting for the rest of the group to arrive as this day was the official start of the meet - some of us just like to get there a few days early.
Rich (Storyteller) with a couple of his fish

Dinner is now in the hands of Jerry (rodtender) and served at the main meeting area.
Lou (retired psg) and Laura (Lazarus's wife)

Once the camp fires were started, we noticed a storm forming over on the Minnesota side of the river.....

Once night came - cell phones started going off with loved ones warning us of the storm coming.....
We sat and watched the lightening for awhile and I retired to my tent once the rain started....
Once in my tent, I was sitting in my chair trying to get ready for bed when the wind came.....HARD and straight on. The wind pushed the top of my tent down onto my head and the force pinned me into my chair for over a half hour. All I could do was just sit there and listen to the force of the storm, hard heavy rain, thunder so loud you could feel the hair start to stand straight up on your head....and the wind - that wind I'll never forget. Once the wind let up enough to where I could sat, I found myself standing in a couple of inches of water pooling on the floor of the tent - a quick hop into the air bed found me landing into another pool of water.....everything was soaked and getting wetter. Another 1/2 hour more of the storm pounding on us and everything let up enough for us all to exit our tents to see what the damage was and to make sure everyone was ok. We just couldn't believe our eyes. Tents bent and smashed and flooded. The main meeting area trashed. A RV had it's awing bent completely back over the top. Trees downed and flooding every where. Most everyone decided to spend the rest of the night sleeping in their cars - I tried but just couldn't get comfortable so I went into the flooded tent and striped the bed down of all the wet bedding and just slept on the bare air bed. Once I was sleep for an hour - I was awaken by the noise of bags being moved. I grabbed the flash light and shown it in the direction of the noise. A RACCOON broke into my tent via the little door at the bottom of the tent used for the extension cords. Because he was caught and then freaked out - he couldn't figure out how to get back out which really pissed him off. My neighbor was John (bottomline) so I started to scream for him to come help out......the tent door was opened and the coon took off dragging along a bag of chips that were tossed into the tent and forgotten about when it started to rain earlier........10 minutes later the same coon was back - jimmied open the little door again - popped his head in far enough to grab the other bag of discarded chips and then sat on the tarp outside my door - opened the bag of chips and sat on his hind legs sitting there eating the chips all the while I have a flashlight on him and I am yelling at him to leave. I no longer find the raccoons so cute.... :cussin:
This is the mess we woke to in the morning - it was later told to us that we had straight line winds gusting at over 60 miles an hour

Needless to say - no fishing got done on Thusday - between spending the day cleaning up the mess and all the water and just from lack of sleep - we all just kind of kept quiet and relaxed once the clean up was done and thanked God for the fact that no one was hurt during this storm.
John (bottomline) found sleeping in front of the fire.

Friday found us out fishing again and enjoying the day and beauty of the river

Thurdays night after dinner, it was decided that we would take my boat out for a flathead hunt with Larry being the guide and Cindy (catfish cindy) joining us.

After a few "a hit and a miss", Cindy hook into a 13 pounder

Next was my turn and I boater a 8 pounder

Once on shore

Friday was also the 3rd annual Pie Eating contest
This year I made cream pies

Team Jared/Ray (Lazarus)

Team Cindy (catfish cindy)/Laura

Team Dani/John (bottomline)

Team Jerry (rodtender)/Melinda

Team Tom (canepole)/Cheri (muskygirl)

Our kids team was Hannah and Cami (our kids winner)

And the PIE FACE is..........

Team Jared/Ray won the contest finishing their pie in 2 minutes and 41 seconds

This year - I changed the prize from tackle to medals - they turned out pretty cool

WHOOHOO!!!!!

Where did it all go?

Saturday was more fishing, relaxing, enjoying one another's company, pot luck dinner, prize give aways, and worship service.

Sunday was pack up and move out by noon.......it is always sad to leave it all behind.....
A huge thanks to Jerry and Tom for all you do to make this meet happen, to everyone who gave to the prize give away, to Linda and Allen for some camera lessons, to John for all your help to me, to John, Dave, Cindy, Rich, and Larry for sharing in the fishing time together, and to God for keeping us all safe and allowing us to gather once again along the shores of the great and beautiful Mississippi River. |

So on the drive up to LaCrosse, Jared was saying how he didn't like his neighborhood and everybody he meets outside of family are just a bunch of selfish jerks. On the way home he said "I guess there are some really nice people left in this world." Thanks to you all for giving my grandson a great attitude adjustment. He's still talking about all of you and is anxious to come back next year. |

Hey folks, I have an off the wall question.....Is the Member Meet in LaCross an Official NAFC meet or is it just members (friends ) from Wi. and close surrounding areas getting together every year? Just kinda sorta unclear about that. I've just noticed that there are a lot of "meets" in different parts of the country and wondered if that was the way NAFC worked. I'm trying to get folks together from Ga to come up there next year cause I know the fishing is kick butt up there. I have friends in Black River Falls Wi. that tell me it is!!!! I wanna come see for myself. Thanks for any info Greg |

The meet is not sanctioned or put on by the club - it is all member driven and funded - just a bunch of us who have a couple things in common - our love for fishing and the friendships we have made through the club. Hope that answers your question - hope to see ya next year Greg |
