    That's an interesting idea...any thoughts on where this should take place?  Some more general ideas would be helpful in generating discussion...

    It would be great if every state that is a nafc member could have a get together , i do realize the difficulty of this for many ( most ) of us. I am unable to stand or walk for more than a minute or so . my wife load's most of my gear when we go fishing and i have to have a chair . I live in arizona and lately i have been going to the lakes in the urban fishing programs. most of these have places where we can all sit  or park a wheelchair in safety. I for one would love to meet my fellow members ( brothers )  . I alway's see atleast one person in a wheelchair where i have ben going lately at both rio vista lake & lake alvord in phoenix. If any of you live in phoenix arizona area and you have any ideas let me hear from you, who know's mayby the staff here ( n.a.f.c. ) could help put something together.

    I am sure you are right about it being difficult to get members together, i just think it would be great to get a chance to meet other members especially those with with limited mobility. I have read some really nice post in the past from members and thers are alot of really nice and caring people in the club . I for one know i could learn alot from many of you . anyway i hope something can be worked out, it would be great to meet you all !

    I think first off I would start this topic in the Arizona Forum.  That is if you are looking to do this as a member meet.  I would imagine that transportation is difficult for the physically challenged which means you would only draw from your state and perhaps a few neighboring states.  But perhaps the bigger issue is for all those individuals that host a member meet, is to be aware of handicap facilities and post such info on their meet info posting(s).  Some of these meets have a large draw and the parks / businesses that benifit should be approached if they do not have handicap facilities.  I know I never gave it a thought until I attended the Ohio meet for the very first time.  And I never thought about it at the Pa meet last year until I had the need for such facilities (which I was and still am greatful for)!

    But the topic of handicap available facilities at our member meets needs to continue in this forum.  It is something we should never take our collective eyes off of!  I hope that other meet sponsers will join this discussion with some good positive input.  And I would like everyone to know that this is NOT a finger pointing discussion, but rather a way to help make our meets more enjoyable to more folks!

    ManofGod,

    Welcome to the club website...

    To follow up on what Pete said;

    When we set up the La Crosse meet here in Wisconsin 6 years ago the topic of what we needed to do to accomidate physically challenged members was discussed  but never posted. Pete as you know first hand if anyone attending the La Crosse meet  needs help we'll do our best to accomidate those needs

    One option  we have available here at LC which Tom mentioned  to me, should the need arises.

      Is an organization out of Onalaska called the: North American Squirrel Association  www.nasasquirrel.org . which offers help to groups wanting to take disabled,handicap,and or physically challenged people fishing.

    Check with your local States or countys to see if there are organization of same in your local.

    Take Care and God Bless

    I think this is GREAT!! It's really nice to see non-disabled people show concern for the disabled. I am disabled and would LOVE to be able to go fishing more often than I do now. The only time I get to go is when my brother comes up from Sarasota, FL and takes me, which is about once a month. I tell ya, it's KILLING me not to be able to go more often. I'm a Sr. Programmer/Analyst and have been laid off for the past 2 years. I live off of Social Security (WHICH I HATE!), and with my disability, I don't get to go out that often. If it weren't for the Internet and TV I would go NUTS! If there is anyone that lives in the St Petersburg, FL area, and wouldn't mind taking me to the St Petersburg Pier to fish, I would GREATLY APPRECIATE IT! I know a lot about computers and would be willing to give my expertise in exchange for taking me fishing. I don't like boats very much, so it would only be pier fishing.

    Just thought I would throw this out there to see if i get any bites. (No pun intended. )
