Do the stripers bite better in October than September? How do you go about catching them? What is the average size caught there? |

Frank, review this link: http://www.fishingclub.com/communit...p;t=156932 This meet will be held in north central Pa. at Raystown lake. The campground we will be using is called Seven Points Campground. They have a free boat launch with docks and is easy access. The facilities are handicapped accessable. When do they drop the water level ???? I was checking things out again today on striper's , I think we were getting close last year , I saw the bait busting up top and I think Art did also. Next year I'll have one rod rigged at all times with a stick bait so I'll be ready it that happen's again.................the charters seem to like the time frame you had down............ http://www.striper-guide.com/hotaction.htm |

I am not sure they lower the water on a regular basis. Last year they were doing maint. on the shoreline which was to start a few days (10 I think) after we were to be gone. Yes, we were very close to the correct time to be there for stripers (for the fall feeding push). This year we will be three days into October which is better than last year by 6 days...We shall see! LM since 2005 Bushwacker Deputy Sherif

Here are some pics that davesett2000 posted for us last year: The pics above are of the camping facilities or better said, the layout of the campground. Here are some pics from last year... .jpg) .jpg) .jpg) .jpg) It was a great time as all member meets are. The facilities are really nice and I look forward to seeing you this year! I was only there the one time and can tell you this , in the group camp you could drive up to the main area and only have to walk under 30 yards to get into that area other wise you will be walking from you tent/camper site anywheres from 50 to maybe 100 yards to get there. Same with the bathroom you can drive up or take a short walk. I'm not sure on the shore fishing but Scott , Art or Pete may beable to answer that. Here is a link for places to stay : http://www.raystownlake.com/cabins_cottages.htm and one more: http://www.raystownlake.com/motels_and%20_inns.htm bigbarry wrote: BECAUSE OF MT PHYSICAL LIMITATIONS, I CAN NOT STAND OR WALK FOR ANY AMOUNT OF TIME . Joe, so good to hear from you! It sure would be nice if you could make this...everyone has missed ya! There is a lot of shore fishing opportunities. I'm not sure how much is handicap accessable. That and hotels in the area I need to reaserch yet. I won't get to that untl later...I need to heal from my surgery. LM since 2005 Bushwacker Deputy Sherif

Ok folks, we have a problem...
I just got off the phone with the park ranger and because our group is so small (they checked past records) we are being bumped by a much larger group. The next available date(s) are Oct. 13 to Oct 17. That would suit us better for fishing but you need to let me know if this works for you, ASAP! I reserved this time period for us but if it won't work I will need to cancel the reservation. I asked about being bumped again and was told we are not to worry about that since we have been bumped once already...Geez!
So, this is it! Take it or leave it...I still plan to go. |

Welp, we do have the option of keeping the same dates but getting our own sites farther in the campground. This will be the cheepest option as it stands right now.
The reason for the bump, as I understand it, is we have never met the minimum number of campers for the group site. A stink was raised last year. They tried to honor our request this year but a large group needed that date, and so they went by our past history...I don't know what else to say...I will attend the original date if that is what we want to do... |

I was looking forward to going .Hope to see some of you there. |

Well, I think it is time to set this record straight. The issues is not only with the park but also with me. I was later than I should have been when making reservations for this meet. It had never been an issues before, but now this group site is very popular. When I called to make reservations I was told I could not get the dates requested. In fact the site was booked solid until the later October date. I was told that there will be a time when our small group will not be able to reserve that site (group camp) because we don't meet the minimum number of campers requirement (10). For this I am truly sorry and for the miss leading post. I guess I was to ashamed to tell the truth...Perhaps it is time for someone else to take over this meet.
I plan to attend on the original date; Sept. 29 (arriving) to Oct. 3 (departing). |

Sorry to be late in responding, the camping area that I recommend is called "point camp", it runs along the lake. It would be your first right after the visitor center. My first year there (first meet) I camped right along the lake and regretted it because the wind slams those sites, but you can shore your boat there. I will pick a site more inland but close by. There is electric on all those sites, nice facilities like the group site (bath, etc) and is handicapped accessable. Boat parking not permitted on site but there is parking for your boat & trailer near by. I will arrive on the morning of the 29th. The body of water that borders that site is called "beer barrel) cove. |

I am currently drying out my tent and other equipment from the Finger Lakes Meet. Everything should be dried out shortly and I can focus on loading the gear I want to take to this meet. I will probably load up with leftover hot dogs (from the Finger lakes) for my suppers...Woo wee, I am looking forward to this! |

Well Art, I think the weather got the best of this meet. I left by the end of the day on Wed. Merlin and his wife had been there since Sunday and only managed one day of fishing to that point and were planing to leave early due to the weather forcast. I do not know if Joe made it. I waited until the end of the day, Wed. Perhaps next year will be better... |

I got there about 9:45am Wed. I was at the point camp site #153. On Thursday the rain stop for a little while and I fished for about 45 min ( I caught some bluegills ). Friday I was going to go look for the others but my brother-in-laws RV would not start ( he had just bought it ). Didn't get it fixed till Sunday. Could not use the boat because I forgot the gasline. The guy beside me took me out on his boat on Sat. and we both caught bluegills. I fished some more on Sunday while I was waiting for my help to show up and caught some more bluegills. I would say that Thursday the weather was bad but the rest of the time I thought the weather was nice. |
