    Hello fellow fisherman/fisher persons!

We are hoping to continue the oldest and original NAFC meet!

Anyone who would like to attend the NAFC NE Annual meet please contact me or another former attendee.

Through the years we have all had a fantastic time. Ths will be our 11th year.

The meet will be on the weekend of May 22nd and May 23rd. Many of us come earlier and stay later of course. We camp at Rogers Rock Campground in Hague NY on Lake George and are only 15 minutes from the Ft Ticonderoga boat ramp at the southern end of Lake Champlain. The variety of species with these two lakes offers any freshwater fisherman the opportunity of a lifetime. At the very least it has been really fantastic fishing throughout the years.

For many of the former attendees let me now if you are still willing to attend. We have always had fun times.

The purpose of a meet is to meet fellow members and exchange tips, ideas, techniques, baits, and general fishing knowledge etc.

The fun and laughter are included! Come join us for a really fantastic fishing experience. For all the former members hope you can return. Even you PA John (aka the amish godfather). lol.

For anyone wishing information contact me at jarhead1974@hotmail.com

I will get information to you as soon as possible.

For returning members, well contact me guys!!!

    Keep your drags loose....

Jarhead... as I already said, I plan to be there.

    .

Turnip.. I am sorry to hear you can't make it this year, the folks will miss your smile.

    .

Wellsley... I do hope you make it at least on Sat. if not for the weekend. I have a spot in the new boat saved for you. I think we might chase some Salmon on Lake Champlain this year if your game. And if you can stay more than a day, we can do Lake George too.

    .

The boxes of new gear for the new boat keep piling up here. Today, I just paid for my new Yamaha T-8 high thrust kicker motor with power tilt. Now I am looking into remote control electric steering for the kicker. This will be the ultimate fishing machine. Come help me break it in... we need to add some fish blood to christen it.

You sure you will be able to get all the boxes unloaded in time for the meet. lol

I won't know for awhile between my daughter getting out of college and her doing an intership somewhere I'm not sure what my schedule will be. She is in her 3rd year. Now she is thinking of going to Law school so it could be four more years. I'll let you know as soon as I can.

We are praying for a short winter and an early spring so that we can pull the boat out of storage and get out project on track. I tried to find a garage in the area that I could heat... but none available were big enough. The boat won't fit into my garage or my boat barn. But I will be pushing to "Get it Done" before fishing time.

Turnip, Sorry to hear you won't be able to attend again. Wellsley I hope you'll make it. Keep in touch. Fish Eagle glad to hear you'll return this year. Missed you last year.

Hopefully this years meet will be even better than last years. My experience through the years has been cold winter/warm summer. We shall see. The weather cooperated for the most part last year except for some really heavy downpours. I expect this year to be better. Praying I'm right!lol!

I need to hear some chatter from the former attendees. This is a great meet. The fishing is awsome to say the least. The variety of species is so good it meets the needs of many freshwater fisherman.

The best part is you can't beat the laughter. Come sit with us around the camp fire after a days fishing and you'll know what I mean.  You might even get to meet the Amish godfather! He's prepping his mule as we speak...

Contact me for any information needed, including hotels etc if need be.

    Tight lines all!

Well it looks like there might be a good chance I may be able to attend this year. The new job surprised me by telling me I have 2 weeks of vacation time for this year, with one week having to be taken before July. However us new people have to work ours around the other employees with more seniority picks. As it looks now I'll have from the 18th till about noon on the 23rd. As I'm on the 3rd shift now (Midnight-8am) my week starts Sundays at midnight and ends Friday 8 am. Not sure If I'll be bringing the boat or not; I don't want to pull it with the Cherokee any more because I "slightly" scorched the tranny in it last year coming back from the LCI. It wants to slip a little occasionally and I don't dare try it again. I'm hoping to have a new tow rig in place before too long, taxes this year are looking good. With the Bridge being gone now I will have to plot a new route but I think I can figure it out. I can say that I am really looking forwards to seeing everyone who can make it again, Yes; even PA. I'll miss Turnip, but at least Turtle and I won't have to hide our pies in the livewells again. I'll keep everyone posted on whats happening. And you can even use my launch. I don't mind.

I hope you received the info I sent you. WE are plannig a great event as always. I'm sure you'll have a place to fish if you can't bring your boat. So good to hear you're coming again but I think I'll leave your launch site alone.

I recently joined and am interested in this meet.  I've only ever fished local ponds in my canoe or john boat with trolling motor.  Anyways im working on getting a trailered boat with motor in the next couple of months.  If not perhaps i could second, third or fourth? on another.  Im still deciding if i can make it, but will know by mid april if i can attend.  Hope to make more friends here and get fishing in the next few weeks here anyways.  The ice has melted and im hyped.

Hey Wellsley I am hoping to see you in May at Rogers Rock.

Yes, most all the boxes are now empty and the new boat is looking great. All the electronics are installed and have passed check-out. The motor mount for the kicker motor is finally installed ( that was a project) and now the boat needs to go down to my Yamaha dealer to have the new T-8 installed with remote controls. I still need to get the new downriggers & install them.

The project is getting done and that is good because I need to get out fishing on Lake George & Champlain. I need to know the hot spots for the meet. I won't be up until late Friday as I gave my assistant the day off. But I will be ready to go fishing early Sat. morning if you can make it.

    Hey Fishing-eagle

Good to hear your making progress with the new boat. I'm still hoping to make rogers rock.

I still don't know anything. My daughter hasn't heard what her schedule will be. If it works out I will come up Friday afternoon. I'll keep you informed as soon as I know.

Hey any updates on the Lk Geo./Champlain Meet?

    .

I have not been fishing as yet on the lake. We did get out on a shakedown cruise with the new boat, but no fishing rods were aboard. I just finished the last of the wiring and install of my electonic steering for my kicker engine. Yes it is wireless controlled too. Everything is done on the boat except the install & wiring of the new downriggers. They should be here this week and I will get them installed ASAP.

    .

I am headed up to Crown Point this weekend to set-up and open my new camp. So the following weekend... I should be fishing on Lake George and putting some Lakers & Salmon in the boat. We need to christine the new boat with some fresh fish slime & blood. I will have some fish locations to share at the meet. But there is always a price for such information... ya know pie & ice cream and all that good stuff.

    Wellsley,

Glad to hear you'll probably be able to attend. Many can't make it because of the economy but it looks like around 15 so far. Down some but we'll still have a great time.

Friday night is the meal at our campsite and then we'll set up when we are doing the group photo. We are also doing our regular Saturday night meal in town, all are welcome to attend.

I hear PA John is ready and the mule is tuned up. We're goin' fishin'

The weather was great! Fishing was all not that bad. I had a great weekend and enjoyed some good conversation and fishing with Wellsley. We were able to hit both lakes and had a good time.

The chili on Friday was excellent but my wife almost made me sleep out on the lawn. I did enjoy saying hello to a bunch of good folks. I am sorry the WindChill Factory was not open... next year. Oh yeah... I heard that sombody likes to play rotten tricks with ice cream dishes. Now that isn't nice; but I do think it's funny.

I'm home know but not for long. I don't have time to put up a report at the moment. But when I get back I will try my best. It was a great meet and it was good to see everyone. Some are still there and are coming home thursday. The weather was the best. No heaters needed this year. No rain gear or snow gear needed either. There was a good mix of states represented. There was the following states represented Maine, New Hampshire, New York, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia, and Florida.

PS: Sorry PA John the devil made me do it.

I will put together a report, but this is going to take me weeks to accomplish. I'm going to be in and out for the next few weeks. So bare with me.

I Arrived at Rogers Rock campground at noon.
Before I could get set up Patrick (jarhead) & Sean (his son) get back from a morning of sucessful fishing. Good to see them again.
After I get set up I go down & greet Karl (turtle) and Denise they are putting the finishing touches on their camp. It wasn't long before PA John shows up. Robbie , Wayne (son) and grandson are staying in town at the super 8 so are two of John's (Pappy) friends from Maine. Walt (fishing-eagle) gets there around 5pm, Sam & Rick shortly after. They spent most of the day on the water Sam caught a nice pike. Patrick has the meal set for 6pm.
At 5:30 Pappy decides to take a shower. Patrick says that will take an hour and 15 minutes. Dinner will be late if we wait. The dinner (chili) was great & great laughs  around the campfire. Well that raps up day one. You will have to wait a week for more. Sorry but thats the best I can do.

Hey Erabbit and Turnip, ya both missed a nice meet. We also missed seeing your smiling faces and I missed having any pie. I could add some more to the news about the meet but I am going to let Frank update us all because he promised he would. I know he has been busy the past week... yes he is out fishing with his lovely fishing partner. I bet she catches the biggest one. Anyway... I did have a nice weekend last week and I enjoyed some good fishing and company on my new boat. Frank and I did get to go fishing for Lakers on Lake George and LL Salmon on Lake Champlain and we had some success on both lakes. What counted is that we did not get skunked and we had a good time and some laughs. Maybe I will let Frank fill you all in on the laughs.

The weather here on Lake Champlain & Lake George is even more fantastic this weekend. The lakes have been calm and the wind has been minimal to make for good fishing. I was out yesterday on Lake Champlain (same area as last week, Frank) and I had 6 hook-ups with the LL Salmon. My avatar is from yesterday with that 21" LL Salmon weighing in at 4lbs 6oz which kicked off the morning after a release with nobody home. It was a great way to start off the day.

At 5:30 Pappy decides to take a shower. Patrick says that will take an hour and 15 minutes. Dinner will be late if we wait. The dinner (chili) was great & great laughs  around the campfire. Well that raps up day one.

Saturday Morning Pappy is the first up and is on th road shortly after 6am. Sam & Rick are next to follow. Patrick is moving about around 6:45 he will have to wait for PA John to feed his mule. lol. No sign of life from Karl. Time for me to go meet Walt at 8 am. Walt pulls in with his new boat the

Right on time, we launch on Lake George at mossy point. Shortly there after we are trolling  & my rod fires the tip is bouncing up & down. It feels like a good fish. Nope it is junk off the bottom. ( thats my story and I'm sticking to it ) lol Walt might say it was a mono fish. lol   At 10 am my rod fires again  a nice fat 24" laker. In the box it goes.

A little while later another short one for me than one for Walt. Next thing we get a double. My rod fired first and the fish takes the line hard to port. Crossing Walts line. Walt brings his in and skillfully jumps my line preventing a messy tangle. A just legal one for me and a short one for Walt. We put both of them back.  Then Walt reel in his line only to find the lure is gone. Next bam my rod is bent right over and nothing. I reel in and my lure is gone. I believe I was 60' down and 10' off the bottom. What ever it was ripped through 15lb flouro-carbon leader. A little while later I get another short one. Then all of a sudden Walt snags bottom (oh no!!!) We shut off the kicker motor but we are still drifting away from the lure. I start the big motor and head towards the lure wait a minute the line is still striping out. Its a fish Walt yells. I power up to over take it and Walt brings the laker to the surface. Its the biggest of the trip at 25". But what a fighter. Walt says WoW thats never happened before. It had over 300' of line out and we were in only 70 FOW. In the box it went.
Back to camp, Walt was taking his lovely wife Sharon out to dinner, the rest of the gang was going to the dinner for supper at 6 pm. Me I was in need of a shower after which I went into Ticonderoga for Ice cream. PA John was upset because the ice cream store on the way to town burned down. But I found one on the other side of town. And I was nice enough to leave the empty dish on his pick nic table. lol  I told ya the devil made me do it. Patrick, Pappy and Sam all had gone to TI ramp and fished Champlain today the water was so rough they had to leave early. Pappy said the fishing was real slow but he did manage a 10lb pike.

    That raps up day two.
Sunday Morning I'm up at 6 am start getting things around. Go over to Patrick's camp Rick & Sam are leaving for
home. Pappy is getting ready to go to TI ramp and Patrick will have to wait for PA John to feed his mule. lol No life
from Karl's camp.  A few good byes and everyone is off. I'm headed up to Crown Point to meet Walt.
I meet up with Walt and we run up to Port Henry on Lake Champlain & put in. After a few passes Walt gets something. Its a LL salmon, he's is jumping up and down first Salmon in the new boat. Its a nice fat 19"er.

Several more passes then called it quits, time to pack up & go home.
Here is fishing-eagle with his new boat, good luck with it I'm sure you will have many memorable moments on it.

Thank You Walt for a great time it was a reel delight!!!

Some of the people that could not make it were missed. Their sites empty but our memories full.

    Bill & Sally,

    Ed & Carrol

    Dennis

    Pete
For those of you that could not make it I hope that our fishing lines cross again in the future.
For those of you that have not attended a fishing meet do so you won't regret it. I sat around the fire and listen to Patrick, PA John and Robbie. Who are the only members to make all 11 Northeast meets who never new each other before this club started. It amazes me that total strangers can come together and bond  and such strong friendships be formed. I am honored to be apart of such a group and have had the pleasure to meet everyone.
Thank you Patrick for all your effort keeping this meet going.

Sounds like you got a good plan there Walt keep up the good work. I look forward to the pic's.
I'd have to learn how to spell before I could be a writer. Oh and then there is gramma, I'm not very good with that either. lol

I'M BACK !!! Now lets get things straight about the NE Meet. First of all who was the "Smart A--" that left the ice cream cup at my campsite? You knew damn well I was having a bad time, with the Wind Chill Factory burning down. After 6 mos of intense therapy I am getting over it. The next thing I must get straight is this year I think I caught the biggest Bass. I think I embarassed the N J gang and they are not posting. They all left a day early(Do not let Patrick tell you he hurt his back and had to leav. I spent the last day relaxing at my campsite, because my arms were tired from reeling in all those Bass. It sure was nice up there this year,it was a little too warm and made it more dfficult reeling in those big Bass. As us Amish do not have cameras or allow picture's to be taken,I can not post pictures of the many hugh Bass I caught. I have to go milk some Ducks now .more later, PA John

PA John.... it was not I but I think maybe you should go back and read all the posts here on the meet. I think you missed a confession somewhere. Now I can't comment on the biggest Bass or wether or not anybody had a bad back, so I won't express my opinion about all of that. Yet I must agree with you that there has not been much to be heard about the NE Meet this year; but, I must say that Wellsley did a great report with photos and everything. I think you might want to consider the great report while considering any other facts.

I do think we need to hear more about the NE Meet... at least  we should start talking about dates for the upcoming year.

Oh yes the ice cream is mmmmm mmm good. My wife and I have stopped there a couple of times since they re-opened this season. But then, unlike some unlucky visitors to the area, we are here nearly every weekend from April through October when also the Windchill is also open. Yes Frank, we get to sample all their different flavors often. I really do like their thick strawberry milkshakes.

Some people will just have to wait to the next NE Meet for ice cream.

fishing-eagle you are killing me with these posts. I do not like the new look of the Wind Chill Factory as much as the old plain white building. But hope the ice cream is as good. Do not tell me how good it is or how many times you eat it. It cause me great agony to hear about it. I can not wait until next NE Meet as I may not fish and just go to the Wind Chill everyday. Enjoy,PA

PA John.... would it help any if I told you that I did not stop at the Wind Chill this week. I was too busy because a bunch of people at my campgrounds decided to have a giant fish fry yeasterday afternoon with about 20 people looking to eat fried fish. Different folk were providing different species for the fish fry. We had Crappie, Salmon, Catfish, Stripper, Cod and I was to provide Lake Trout. I only had two packages of laker fillets in my freezer at camp because my wife had taken most of the our frozen fish home last weekend to make more room in the RV freezer. So I had to head out on the lake yesterday and troll those downriggers awhile. I did come through as I boated 7 nice Lake Trout and I kept one 4 1/2 pounder and a 6 pounder to submit to the fish fry with our two packages taken out of the freezer.

Oh it was a beautiful day on Lake George. I launched from Mossy Point at 8:00 am and the lake was calm and only two other boats were fishing in the same area I was fishing. One was a local charter boat and they never boated a fish during the morning while I had already boated 5 at that time. The boat traffic did pick up at approx. 11:00 am and the skiers and tubers all seem to be crowding the lake. The lake soon got busy and wave action was at full-tilt so I fished until 1:00 pm and then decided it was time to head back to camp and fillet my contribution to the fish fry. They had things all set-up when I returned to camp and I was getting  hungry after all that reeling up lakers from 130 to 155 foot depths. One laker did win his battle when he reached about 50 feet and spit the lure. He felt like one of the bigger fish of the day too. Oh well thats why they call it fishing.

I was thinking to drive down to the Wind Chill for dessert.... but there was way too much food at the fish fry and we were sending folks back to their campsites with doggie bags with extras for a later time snack. We had two large friers going, one for the fish and the other for french fries. Mmmmm it was all so good and I had to have a couple of large cool refreshments to wash it all down with. Oh so next thing I knew, it was time for the campfire and more refreshmernts. So I didn't think I should drive down to the Wind Chill.

I will be back up to camp on Thursday morning for another four-day weekend... I will visit the Wind Chill then. Would you like me to have something for you? I have a least one fishing trip planned on Lake Champlain for Salmon and another one for Lakers on Lake George this upcomimg week, but otherwise I should have some time for ice cream and pie.

Oh yes I forgot.... the apple orchard already is picking apples and they sure do bake a great apple pie. Put some vanilla ice cream on top of a warm slice of pie and it is like a small piece of heaven. Ask Wellsley because he just enjoyed some apple pie from the orchard last week while he was visiting.

keep it up fishing-eagle and I may be forced to come to NY and hunt you down. Great job on those Lakers and I understand about giving up the "Wind Chill" after the campfire. Sounds like the NE Meet campfire and I would'nt drive anywhere after one of those. If you have as much fun at your campfire as we do ,I bet you had a great time. Fishing here on the "Susky" has not been good for Bass of any size. There should be more Bass in the "Susky" now that "Pete the Pie man" moved up to Balogna country, but I can't catch them. Later PA "

Talking about ice cream and pies... ahh yes those are also two of my favorite things beside fishing for Lake Trout, Landlocked Salmon, Walleyes, Bass or most other species with fins here in the beautiful Adirondacks. Sometimes it is the simple things that really make our day here in the mountains of northern NY. That was like this weekend when we drove down the road from our camp to the orchard where we bought some fresh picked apples. Then yesterday my wife made a homemade apple pie in a dutch oven. Then I baked the pie over a campfire. Yes a piece of warm apple pie topped with some Wind Chill ice cream, along with a cup of fresh brewed coffee was the perfect ending to a long day fishing on Lake Champlain for some Landlock Salmon.

Okay the fishing trip was not one of my better ones.... no Salmon into the boat but we did not get skunked because some large White Perch did enjoy our lures. The 3 footers on the lake also made it a long rough ride back to the launch, so a good dinner and a fantastic slice of pie and ice cream by a campfire did end the day beautifully and all worth it. Life can be beautiful in the Adirondacks.

The Wind Chill will be closing this weekend or next week some time. Should I have an extra ice cream for each of you guys... PA John & Wellsley? If they closed a little later in the year, I could maybe ship you both some without it melting; but I better just eat them all myself to be safe now.

    What is your favorite flavors?

Okay I wanted to bring this thread back up to the top because it is Jan. 2011 and it is only approx. 4 months until our next meet at Rogers Rock on fabulous Lake George. Is it too soon to start planning for another great meet?  Naaaa I am ready to start planning and thinking about some great open water fishing on Lake George and Lake Champlain. And now that I am retired.... I don't have anything but a lot of time on my hands to go fishing. Of course I will also want to spend some quality time eating pie and ice cream too.

Put me on the list of attendees for the 2011 meet! Wellsley I do have a seat reserved in the Reel Delight for you.

I hear you Frank. I could tell you that your daughter is a big girl now, so let her move herself and you go fishing. I could tell you that... but Sue and your daughter would get mad at me.... plus we all know better.... You have to be the proud father and be there when your baby graduates. I don't know why college garduations are in May because I also had to give up a day of fishing to watch my little girl graduate college too. Matter of fact... I had to give up more than one day of fishing when she decided to later go to graduate school for her masters. That was another day that made me proud!

So Frank I have a possible solution for you. Why don't you plan on spending another weekend or weekdays here in the Lake George area and bring your wonderful wife too and we will go catch some fish.  You know I have plenty of spare time on my hands and the desire to fish. We can try the Lake Trout on Lake George one day and spend another day on Lake Champlain after the Landlock Salmon. Email me and we can make plans.

Looks like just 15 weeks to the next meet. Ahhh good food, good fishing and great time among friends. Wind Chill will be opened and the fish should be waiting. The fishing for Salmon and Lake Trout should be real good this spring because there has not been much fishing pressure on the lake this winter. Ice conditions with all the snow we have received has been low. Unless you wear showshoes or a snowmobile, access on the lake is tough. Three or four wheelers only end up getting stuck on the ice. Plus the ice is very tricky because you can't tell where it is good or not and there has been plenty of water ans slush between the ice and blanketing snow. I personally would not venture on the lake this year with any snowmobile as I value my life too much.

Okay the groundhog did not see his shadow so he said we are to have an early spring. This week the temperatures are predicted to venture into the 40s and possibly over 50 degrees. I am looking for an early ice-out on Lake George & Champlain. My driveway to my boat building is clear, the boat is ready to go and I waiting to go fishing. I have no more good or bad days of work ahead of me and my calendar is open to go fishing.

So is anyone else ready to go fishing?
