To all our new Members reading / wondering what the La Crosse Meet is all about ?

It all started here on the Club web site eight years ago, we wanted more then  just talking about fishing. A group of us members decided to get together for a weekend of fishing to actually fish and share with each other our secrets So we set a date and time the rest is history...  we had such a great time the first year that we've been meeting ever since  The meet is open to any and all members from around the country, as well as their Families and friends

The ultimate goal of the meet is to meet with fellow members to relax, catch a few Fish, and share a story or two around the campfire. There are no set rules at the La Crosse meet for fishing (other then having a valid fishing license and adhering to the local size & bag limits) we do not have tournaments so there's no pressure to catch fish or special equipment needed bring what you have it's just members getting together and having a great time on and off the water.

Here's a brief timeline of activities:

    Wednesday:

Members arrive throughout the day & setup camp, meet & greet with other members, help launch boats, go fishing, or go into town to get supplies for the weekend etc. At 6:00pm we re-group for the first of the hosted nightly comfort meals at the host site. After dinner some member head back out for a little night fishing others fish from shore while others sit around a blazing campfire to share stories and or plan for the next days fishing.

     Thursday through Saturday :

Is up to each member as to how they want to spend the day some Member's pair up and fish together, others just relax and visit around camp or fish from shore, some go site seeing, shopping and etc in town.

    Sunday:

Is the last day of the meet where members say their goodbyes! At breakfast before packing up for the trip home.

    Meals:

We will again be offering  breakfast for members and their families that attend the meet at 9:00 am each morning Thursday through Sunday as well a dinner Wednesday night through Friday night at 6:00pm.at the host site and a potluck on Saturday night.

I will post an update with more info on the meals / menu as we get closer to July!!

    Meal Saturday night :

Is our signature ** POT LUCK NIGHT ** at the Campgrounds Main Shelter here we ask that members bring a Meat of their choice to grill for themselves and a dish to pass for the Group. Afterward we will have the drawing of names for door prize's etc.
Followed by a " Worship Service " with communion for those who wish to attend. To give 'Thank to the Lord" for allowing us the opportunity to share in  fellowship with each other on the banks of the mighty Missisippi River.

Hope you can join us at our 2011 get together to celebrate our eighth year of fellowship

     Take Care and God Bless

It's on my calander for the entire week.  The only thing that will change this for me will either be a death in the family or my house has sold and I am in the middle of building a new one.  Otherwise, WOO WEE, here I come!

A good friend of mine, Rev. Dr. John H. Armstrong (who is not a fisherman) pretty much hit the nail on the head in his blog today, of what the LaCrosse Meet is about for me.

Hey all, Hanging out at KAF(Kandahar Air Field) Afghanistan. James has been here too doing some work for his unit so we have been hanging out after work. He is located about an hour from here. We look forward to hearing whats going on there and how the fishing is going.... Since we are in a desert and have no place to fish. Guess i should get me a rod kit and make me that Muskie/Northern fly rod I always wanted. Have a good day.

I regretfully had to declare bankruptcy in Nov. 2010, and should have my case heard in late Jan or early Feb. 2011. My attorney is positive I will be debt free and can start my life over. I have re-filed for Social Security Disability too. I am job hunting again here in Clinton, Mo where I watch over my father and mother whom I have now moved in with [Oct 26 2010] Can't say at this point if I will be able to make it up to La Crosse in 2011 or not. Sure going to try if possible.

Will update things as I find them out.

it costs about 160 for the week and they have hook ups for campers....it is a nice camp ground right on the river. Bathrooms with showers, laundry, and small store. Three launches. There are a couple motels....most everyone goes to the welch motel. We mostly spend the days fishing, but there is nightly meals, a pie eating contest, a pot luck on sat, and nightly campfires.

    Hi Guys!
Well I see youor meet is gaining speed once again., Good Luck.  I received a phone call from the "Gill-Master" a couple of weeks ago asking about your meet and I advised to check out your threadas I really had no information on it other than what was posted here,.  I also advised him that I will not be attending it, as I can no longer do much travelling, let alone fishing.  I have seen Gene MAYBE twice or three times since the last meet and that was just in passing.  Again I wish all of you guys the best on your meet.

Sorry to hear that Doc  but thanks for the well wishes  not sure if I will be at La Crosse this summer or not...but it will take a catastrophe to keep me away

Still no word from the Bankruptcy judge or my attorney, but none of the [3] Credit Card creditors showed up to protest my filing. Soon as I get my declaration [and financial freedom] I have many folks lined up wanting to buy fishing stuff from me.

Gong to try and put aside enough $$ to attend another nice meet at LA Crosse. Just no guarantees yet.

Doc: Sorry you can't make it. It would be a wonderful thing if you could.

Bottomline: Sure could have used that sump pump last year.

I don't know who did the rain dance last year, but it sure was effective. That should be against the rules from now on.

After 35 months of unemployment at the moment...I can't guarantee that I will be there  and sscasteel and turnip are both in limbo too  but we're NOT giving up just yet

I chatted with Walt (Illinoiz Boyz) on FB earlier this evening...and he's going to try to come up for the weekend too

I might try the pie contest if there is a chocolate pie to munch on. Since I have lost 23 lbs from Nov. 2010, I May not be able to eat it all even with a partner.

Haven't given up hope yet to be there in July. Have finished my Bankruptcy proceedings and am free to start my life over. Selling some fishing stuff now and will try to hold a sale in May and June to get enough $$ to make it to the 2011 meet.

Odds are about 50/50 I will be there right now. But that could improve if I get my Social Security disability approved in Early May. or I get in a couple good garage sales of fishing stuff.

This is a meet that is always on my "get-to" list but things haven't worked out yet to allow me to attend. However, a member of my family has made it to LaCrosse. My son Brett (Da Young Bushwacker) was in LaCrosse yesterday to play baseball against Western Technical College. LaCrosse was good to him as he pitched 4 innings of shut-out baseball against the Cavaliers. Sure wish I could have made the trip! Here's hoping something works out soon where I can get to the meet...or just get there to meet some of the members. I remain optimistic! Good luck with planning the meet and look forward to the pics.

Did we miss the meet. I thought we had an awfully short but hot summer last week. 3 days in the upper 80's with 1 getting to 90 in Chicago than back into the refrigerator. The fish don't know what to do.

Hope the water is down by July, the temperature warms up and the storms stay away this year.

I"m with you.... clear weather and temps in the low 80* during the day and mid 60* at night would be ideal... LOL ...those of us that attended the first LC meet know all to well that mother nature doesn't alway see it our way LOL our first ever meet was held the second week in August temps were in the mid 70* sunshine and no clouds... a cold front moved in over night and the temps droped to 30* with frost on the tents ... LOL

i will posting the pie eating contest details in about two weeks - right now I have a very full plate with continued illness/cancer related issues and moving to wisconsin rapids in a week. everyone who has been in the contest in the past will already be signed up (as you already know). i will be going by the teams we had last year and if changes need to be made - we will deal with that in a couple weeks. the idea is to do cream pies again. anyone who hasn't played in the past and wants to play know - let me know.

just a couple months away my friends....can't wait

I'm still not 100% sure that I will be able to make it...still working on scraping up money for the $600 of property taxes due at the end of July  among a few other small bills between now and then

That said...I've found a buyer for my cargo trailer ($350) and just had a $200 sale of collectable lures to a friend in Australia...so I'm getting there

If I DO attend...I know I won't be able to do SOS or gumbo as I have in the past though

At the same time though...if I attend....I WILL do the "Reverse Door Prize" like I have in the past

Dave should show up. I have offered him some help if needed.

I am posting again asking for any special requested fishing items anyone may want. Time is now [24] days before I head that way. I am bringing a few extra rods and reels and some tackle but not as much for members to buy as in the past.

I will have my both my repair kits for use if needed and a few extra reel parts I found recently.

Today I gave the "Bushwacker" a going over.  All fluid levels are where they should be, tire pressure and all safety devices working and where they should be and she fired up on the first push of the button!  Tomorrow I'll be out on the lake putting her through the paces AND I guess I'll do some fishing while I'm out there!   Next weekend my son will take her to a lake in Maryland somewhere and give her a good workout for a week.   Everything looks good for the meet!  Woo wee!

Wow, only 13 days to go until I head that way on The 18th. Will stop at a motel in Albert Lea, MN for the night and finish the drive to La Crosse the morning of the 19th. Hope to be fishing with you all by the afternoon of the 19th. Just don't catch everything before I get there = Please!

Will have extra rods/reels and some tackle for members to look at. Will have both my rod/reel repair kits with me too.
Meanwhile I am choosing which personal rods to bring and changing to fresh line on all reels.

Turnip,.. It's illegal to fish even in pot holes on an active road or highway. However you might try flushing your hook or bait down the toilet in the Men's restroom. Never know where one might catch Crap-pies or Brown Trout.!!!!!!!

Just a heads up for everybody coming from out of town.

Prepare for high water levels again this year........the river is at 8.6 today and is dropping slow, about a 1/0th a day.....

This is almost 4ft over normal levels...
Doesn't seem to bother the fish much, cats, bass and pannies are doing ok...you just have to adjust for the flow...

I'll be stopping by for sure....have a batch of pickled pike for ya'll

Hope everyone has GREAT FISHING this year. I predicted it so it should happen. There shouldn't be any puking after the pie eating contest since James won't be there this year either. I'm still on 'Slow Roast' in Afghanistan. Will be home in August so don't catch ALL the fish. Have fun and I WILL be there next year.

Sorry to hear you can't make it fish...just come back safe

Thanks pillman...looking forward to the pics

For you Meet attendees...how about fish taco option for Friday night (all we would need extra is corn tortillas and salsa)?

And breakfast burritos one morning? Some wheat tortillas filled with goodies would taste quite good I believe

As for fishing equipment...unless any of you want something in particular...the only for sale stuff I'm bringing is spinnerbait making goodies. If you're looking for something else...shoot me a PM or email me

8 days to go for me!

    Dave

The possibilities of breakfast and dinner items are endless it all depends on how ambitious the cook is LOL the way I feel right now the only concern I have is being able to stand in the morning…

On a lighter note: My son Tyler will be joining us this year for a few days.. We’ve put together a small gift / fishing related test product recycled from his medical supplys .If your interested in trying them out we’ll have a box of them set out at our site (29)

Only a week to go until I head out for the meet. Sure hope to catch plenty of fish with everyone.

Will have a small [but fair] selection of goodies to look at or buy and have the supplies to fix Turnips 652 Abu- Garcia Cardinal reel.

Hoping to arrive around noon on the 19th.

    Safe travel everyone.

I too offered to help with the cost of the SOS in an email to davesett2000. Will try and find some bottled water to bring for the BIG community ice chest as well.

Is anyone available to take my place at the pie eating contest?
Have recently had [3] medication changes to my daily medication's and too much sugar at one time seems to give me a slight headache lasting for about 1-2 hours.
Don't like to bow out of the contest, but feel it is better/safer this way.

Cheri, I am bringing 3# hot dogs and buns for them.  Consider me "in" for contributing to the SOS.  Do I need popcorn? Jerry, I am bringing 5# smoked bacon which can be used for the early birds.  Anything else that is needed I can get Sunday or Monday morning.   Dave, I'll be bringing enough coffee for the week, spare coffee pot & filter and a case of water for us.

Made it safely home on Thursday afternoon [3 PM] and my 15 yr old niece was staying with mom and dad too. We talked and played a lot, So I didn't get to post until today.

The meet was great, I caught between 25 and 40 fish total, and I have already included Jerry K. and his bad back in my prayers. Looking forward to the meet in 2012, but that will be determined after 2012 starts and my finances.
