Unless there is a reason for changing the 2012 La Crosse meeting date [3rd week] The actual dates in the 3rd week we should meet are July 18-22. The 4th week of July contains the current posted meet dates as July 25-29. Just wanting to make sure what is the right meeting dates. |

To answer your question ? After every meet we sit down and talk about the pros / cons of the meet and how we can make it better for the following year .. One of the biggest questions we ask ourselves is how we can get more members involve ? By changing the date to the 25th to 29th for the 2012 meet ( a week later) We're hoping that we can get more members who vacation around the end of July and early August to join us next year at the 2012 meet..
The 2012 meet will be held the 25th to the 29th
Take Care and God Bless |

You can buy the non-res online at the Wisconsin DNR website or stop at the ACE hardware in town and get it. The Ace also has a good assortment of fishing & camping gear. |

From Story City, Iowa, take I-35 North to Albert Lea, Minn, [Not sure what the mileage is] From Albert Lea, MInn. go East on I-90 to Wisconsin. It is roughly 125-130 miles to LA Crosse, WI. Add the miles from Story City Iowa to Abert Lea MINN. / then East I-90 another [130] to that. / Then maybe ten miles to Goose Island from I-90 at La Crosse. |

Thank you. It might take a bunch of sweet talking to my wife and her family, but I doubt I'll be that close again. Some of her family likes to fish, so it might not be too much of a fight. I will keep everyone posted. What species do you all catch up there?(during that season) I'll keep checking back. Thanks. |

Well finally got time to post the results of the Salmon Charter. We only got 1 salmon and it was a big King. We also got 13 Lake Trout. the smallest of the Lakers was about 12 pounds and the biggest tipped the scale at well over 20. I'd call it a very sucessful trip. |

Hi Jerry, to answer your question, I hooked up with the King. When it hit it was about 150 yds off the end of the boat and it made the reel sing when he made his first run. He peeled off more than 200 yards of string before he stopped. While I was working him, I thought I lost him as the line went slack. turned out he was making a run at the boat. What a fight. That was one to remember. |

Fillet them, coat with flour / Old Bay combination and throw them in Crisco! OR, poach, remove meat, mix with slivered onion, mayo for binder & a little Seasonal. Make patties or round balls and roll in garlic flavored bread crumbs = fish cakes! I think lakers make the very best fish cakes...How about it, Jerry! |

A good brine for salmonoids = 1-cup canning salt (no iodine), 1-cup regular sugar, 1-cup brown sugar and 1-gallon spring water. Keep in brine for two days, rinse real real good, let sit in the open air on a rack to dry out (it gets a glazed look to it), put in smoker and do your thing! FYI, it cures better if the skin is on! |

Ken
Any time I have a large slab of fish be it salmon or trout or any fish for that matter I like to cook it as a one dish meal Lake trout fillets (or any fish fillet) I like to use Cut up onion, tomatoes, green and red peppers (but you can use any veggies you want or like) Butter Paprika, salt, and pepper ( or seasoning of your choice) I layer the onions on the bottom in the middle of a piece of foil, then put the skinless boneless fillet on top the onions and cover with remaining veggies, add a few pats of butter. Sprinkle with the seasonings , wrap the foil up and seal edges to make a pouch , place it on grill or bake in oven at 350* about 30 to 45*minutes depending on the thickness of the fillet or until the fish flakes easily and veggies are fork tender. PETEyou bet I can remember you picking through all the fish (L trout) you brought to the meet and stuffing myself with those mouth watering fish cakes we had ( if I remember right you were still eating them and the onion rings we had during the pie eatting contest ) LOL |

In going through some of the posts on this thread I can see that some things never change. I can't believe that it has been six years since I first joined you folks up there at the island. I am going to try and make it up this year. We will have to see how things go between now and then. |

Due no internet at home, i have not been able to check in...it is with VERY sad regret that i must say i can not attend the meet this year. Breaks my heart that i cant make it this year. Due to continued money issues and health issues...it just isnt do-able this year. I have found out that on top of everything else i am dealing with that I have MS as well and that explains why the heat effected me so badly last year and making me so sick. I wish you all a great meet and pray everyone stays safe. I sure will miss you all and miss your good cooking jerry. |

Right now, things are still up in the air about me coming to La Crosse. I will be alone if I do get there, I do have the funds. My lady friend now has 3 family members with medical difficulties and a last minute lack of funding. I really would like to be there, but it may be better to just plan for next year. :>( |

I have been doing a teetor - tottor on coming all this year. I sadly have to back out. Weather is too hot and I have a very bad congestion problem right now. Would just feel uncomfortable traveling, and may not be able to fish up there either. I will cancel my Reservations at The Welch Motel tonight. Will try very hard to be there in 2013 for sure.

QUICK NOTE
Ray (Lazarus) has to leave Saturday morning before the pot luck. As you know our annual worship serves is one of the traditions that we have adopted and share as a group to give thanks to the "Lord" for allowing us the opportunity to get together every year. In talking with Ray we decided to bump the serves up a day by having it Friday night the 27th after the fish fry ... Please join us. Thanks Have a safe trip "God Bless" see you there |

Thanks for the above post about the worship service Rod Tender. Since our numbers are decreased this year, we can do a short campfire discussion about how we've seen God working in us, through us, and around us. No need for a formal liturgical order with confessions and a sermon. We will do communion though. Please try to attend. It will be very different. Blessings, and see you tomorrow! Ray |

La Crosse Meet update. Just got off the phone with canepole Tom. He says that several folks have caught channel cats up to 22"...several northerns (biggest is 31" at this point)...and panfish have been good too. He ALSO states that "Steve's Point" has been EXCEPTIONALLY good this year (sorry Steve). Last...but not least...they are having a great time...and I am thankful to the Good Lord that they are |

I didn't have time to stay on my way home from playing little Army games in Arkansas, but I did enjoy stopping in and saying hi to everyone Saturday evening for a bit. Sorry I missed the Beebes and the Coopers.

@ wellsley...you're welcome! @ mo65 & jtaylor...the Member Meets are IMHO one of the nicest things that have evolved since the creation of the Forums. EVERY ONE of them have Forum folks there....and they are ALL family oriented. Save your money...take a chance...and attend one @ fish-a-holic...glad to see that at least you got to stop by. I couldn't even afford to get down there (85 miles away) NOW...we ALL gotta hope for some pics! |

I know Ohio already has a great Member Meet every year as well as weekend or "mini meets" throughout the year, and they are all family oriented! |

Another Meet has come and gone, This year was a week later than usual, good thing too as it was in the triple digits earlier, the weather was good and fishing was also, Domatar caught a nice 31" in Northern, and that was fun watching him bring it in, that made my day, and the size of the sunfish the kids where catching was impressive, along with the other catches there was plenty for the Friday night fish fry!! There was one thing that was missing this year from past years,,,, PIE,,, did miss it,, but this was the year of the COOKIE!! want to thank everyone that brought cookies to share,, I ate my fill ,, boy where they good and want to say Thank you to Rod Tender and all of the Cooks that made the Meals GREAT!! Think I put on 10# this year,, LOL And the Door Prize winner is Amy, Congratulations, and Rod Tosser out done himself this year with flys,, It was good to see some members drop in even if it was for a short while, Also had a Skunk visit a couple of nights, kinda neet to watch, Would like to post some pictures but I misplaced the cord for the camera,, for a while there I couldn't find the camera,LOL I hear there are pictures posted on FaceBook that is where everyone has gone,,, I don't do FaceBook,, oh well . I had a lot of Fun and it Sure was good getting together again with everyone, miss those who couldn't make it,, see you next year, or sooner, hard to beleive that next year will be the 10th year for the Meet, I would encourge everyone try to get to a meet in your area, or start one yourself, out of these Meets you develope friendships that last a lifetime. Thank you to all of my Friends for a wonderful time!!
Take Care "Canepole"
