Hey guys, just wondering what's the purpose of the "good morning" threads? Seems kinda silly to come on every day and say hello and tell us the temperature. Am I missing something?

The one here in Misc was started by Charlie Hall way back when.

He passed away a while back...and various Members use it as both a remembrance...and as a way to show that there are friendly folks here.

The one in Life Members is to also show that there are friendly folks here.

With all due respect...no one is forcing you to read them

At the same time...both are "hangovers" from our Forums prior to a major software change back in Nov 2007...which drove a LOT of people away...as we lost not only major content on here...but many couldn't even sign in for SEVERAL days.

Prior to the 2007 change...you could find upwards of 200 new posts a day.

    See what it's grown to

Hey Davesett2000, I never said I was being forced to read them, I just asked the purpose of them. With all due respect, I still think they're kinda silly. As far as the floundering forums, I'm in here every day posting....usually talking to myself. Hey, maybe I should start a "good morning" thread. I was looking for conversation with a little more substance but hey, as this point... I'll take whatever I can get!

Apparently when you have nothing constructive to say you say "good morning". Not much goes on here anymore. When you check out the threads at 8pm and find the last post was a "good morning" at 7am, you just blow by that thread. Too bad, this used to be a fun and informative site. Times change.

It's always kind of slow in the summer, it picks up when the weather turns cold.  I still consider it a fun and informative site.

I see nothing wrong with being friendly and saying good morning to everyone. I also like to know what the weather is like in other parts of the country. Some poeple don't even tell thier family good morning when they get up. Being nice to poeple when they get started for the day makes the day go better for them and you.

I hope you all have a great day.

    May God Bless You ALL.

Wow! This is the most response I've had in here in over a month. Guess I found where everyone's been hangin'...the "good morning" threads! Oh, by the way, it's 65 and cloudy here.

The basic purpose of the 'chatty' posts in my mind is to let those members concerned about post counts run theirs up! I just ignore them.

Follow Pegsguy, if you like them, do them, otherwise, ignore them. I do them sometimes and yes, they did bring my "count" up, but then so did every other post I made.

Just out of curiosity, why would anyone even care what their post count was? Is that why they're saying "good morning" every day in multiple threads? Seems like one "good morning" a day would suffice.

Actually mo65, it is so they can get to advanced poster, I guess. There is a thread about reaching the "1000" mark, I did not post there when I reached it. I had thought about it before hand and forgotten it by the time I did reach it.

You know, when I first joined this club, I thought these forums would be a great source of new information and hot tips. How much more wrong could I be? I've been told time and time again how great they used to be and how boring they are now...maybe the people who made it great left because they saw the same thing I'm seeing now. But hey, what the hell, I'm now one post closer to "advanced status".

I still feel the forums are a good source of information and good for exchanging knowledge pertaining to fishing and fishing related topics. Yes, as you can see from a few of the previous posters on this topic, there are one or two people that are abrasive and or rude. And yes, there are some "topics" that are basically worthless. But you can't throw the baby out with the bathwater. Just try to focus on the topics that are actually relevant and ignore the "Good Morning" and "Song Game" topics. There are my 2 cents.

If you go to any of the "good morning" threads you'll see that I haven't posted on them asking for information. I have posts in the appropriate forums for that. I started this thread to find the purpose of the "good morning" threads and I got that answer...plus a few other colorful comments. Looks like I'm breathing a little life into what some of you call "the dead/boring forums"!

Good grief, I was so busy trying to explain that I'm not just some idiot hung up in the wrong forum that I forgot to answer Captain Quantum. I see what you're saying...maybe I made it sound like I was giving up on the forums. I'm not going anywhere, I love posting in the forums. I guess I should have said that its disappointing when days go by and no one answers a question. With half a million members I guess I was expecting more! Actually, things have picked up over in the "ask a fisherman" and the "bass" forums. I've even noticed an increase in the "good morning" posts the last few days. I'm gonna do like you said CQ and not let the negativity get me down.

I was looking yeaterday at various things and I think the "good morning" and "song game" are no where as silly as some of the things which come up on "wastebook", I mean facebook. If I was doing this on facebook I would possibly be telling you that my lunch today was leftovers from the resturant we went to last night---- OOPS, I just did it and I promise not to do it again.

Facebook can be used for good, productive applications or it can be used for nothing more than to describe the asinine happenings of one's day. The latter use im not particularly fond of. But the N.A.F.C. Facebook site is filled with so much hatred and malice and vulgarity from random people that it is hardly worth my time.

That's right CQ, what little time I've spent over there I've seen awful comments. Debates there are like throwing 1 banana into a cage full of monkeys...total chaos! Kinda makes our arguments here seem trivial.

When I am posting in the "good morning" threads I am looking for a response from folks in that particular state. Also, to say good morning to friends that sometimes just brouse the site, not always posting. So I guess it must be working because so many here are talking about them! BTW, good morning boogers...hehehe! Ya'll have a grape kinda day! That particular greeting is a combination of two different events / statements that were made in the past - pre 2005 and current. So, how many of you know or remember where they came from? Since the site changed in 2007 a lot of info and personalities have been lost. I am tired of beating a dead horse but this site is NOTHING like it used to be...But I still love it and the folks that belong to it!

It's one way to let people know what side of the grass your on. I also post the temperture to show what kind of weather I'm having. I don't look at every forum so if someone doesn't like the good morning threads don't look at them. But the appear to be very popular by the number of visits.

I SAY good morning to my NAFC friends every morning in the chatroom...just seems a little more personal to me than posting "good morning". I can see I'm in the minority here...but that's OK...no worries...you guys post away! And if you have an extra minute...stop in the chatroom in the mornings...the coffee alone is worth the stop!

Really way back before the the chatroom thing that some times worked but most times didn't the "Moring Group" so to speak would stop by most mornings , you could look at the bottom of the page see you was online at the time then race around to the threads that were hit every day, Good Morning in the - miss- the cancer thread in miss- the two click and win threads- good morning in the state that they were from... and a few more I'm sure.... by doing this in a way we were chating with each other..........then on to the threads that each kind of watched each day/week............  It was fun Mo.....

ERABBIT, saw you stopped in the chatroom this morning...sorry I wasn't there...but I guess you saw my message that I had to get bloodwork done this morning. Try to stop in around 8:00am, that's when we usually get things going. The guys all came in right after you left...don't that figure? Plenty of room for you too turnip!

I used to spend a lot of time in the old chat room, but after the mess-up in 2007 hardly anyone showed up...That being said, I have showed up a few time this past week and I will make it a point to be there at the correct time!   My old habit was to show-up for the evening session...
