I clicked on the "Active Topics" a few minutes ago, and there weren't any threads listed.

Two years ago, that would NEVER be the case!

You are correct sir. NAFC is unfortunately slipping over the cliff. Benefits have gone down hill. Participation in the forums is practically non existant. Too bad. These are some of the reasons so many NAFC members have become members at Outdoor-Fishing.

Since NAFC is not moderated and lets people post attacks and profanity...seems people have gone elsewhere. Lotta forums on the internet that Do have moderators and do not have to view all this BS. I belong to a few..and .....only signup on Forums that do have moderation.

I think the NAFC gets in it's own way. Every time something seems to be going right, they switch it out. Folks have had to rename themselves or been kicked off during an "upgrade." It's difficult to post pictures, the company doesn't do a good job of responding to members and I'm sure the social competition of things like FB, twitter, and other stuff factor into the equation.

How bad is it? They're trying to get life members to upgrade to premium life members, but their content doesn't really warrant the upgrade. I must believe they're losing money on magazines. In fact, I'd like to see the mag go completely digital. Here is what's happening to the industry. In the late 90s I subscribed to the NAFC, Outdoor Life, Field & Stream, In Fisherman and a regional fishing magazine. This is the only one left that I get, because I did the life membership. Advertising should work great with the NAFC, but every time it seems like we get a big bunch of people interacting on the site, they change it, or they don't make it easy to use. Has anyone ever been able to edit a post in the last 3 years? Before that it was very difficult, but now I don't think it can be done. Primarily because, I don't care to spend the hours to reach the NAFC and tell somebody that the website doesn't work the right way. Additionally, it rarely changes anything on the site anyway. Do they care about me, or their customers. I believe they do, but there's some sort of dysfunction that prevents them from making the online experience half of what it could be.

Content is key, and they've got decades of content. Wouldn't it be nice if there were a way to search all their articles for "Winter cats in small ponds?" or something like that? They've got it, but we get no access to it. What we get are videos on the home page of a cute, and I mean very attractive, female telling us why she likes fishing. Ya know if I'm looking for a bio, they should have a section about all their staff entitled, "staff bios" and dedicate the videos to fishing tips. If I were them, I'd contract with old fishing shows and cherry pick the best episodes. C'mon who doesn't like seeing Roland Martin bloopers?

Hey that's my rant. The NAFC is trying to figure out what makes money, and it hurts the website because they can't figure out how to provide enough updated content.

    Rodrigo,
First, I edit nearly every post I make. It is very easy, I just click the "edit" icon at the top of my post and edit it.
Second, if NAFC eliminates the magazine and goes with only digital, I'm out of here permanently. The magazine was the only reason I joined and the only reason I stay. I won't be chained to my computer to read the magazine.

B or B...Rodrigo is right...some members can't edit...some can't use the PM system(like me)...and some can't access their profile pages. It seem to be a chaotic mess here...problems around every turn...and its nothing new...been this way for a while...it ain't gettin' fixed. Fisherfanatic, Rodrigo, sign up at outdoorfishing.com, we'd be glad to have you there. And like I always say, you can still visit here, but ignore these rants about loyalty. It's a fishing club...Vlad Dracula isn't going to impale you on a stake for visiting multiple forums!

Since you said you could edit it, I tried. The first time I hit edit was on my last post to this category. I rec'd code without any of the text I'd written. Then I went to the story I posted about hunting, clicked edit and my jaw nearly came unhinged. In less than a minute I had a screen allowing me to edit what I'd written. Since batting .500 is great for baseball, but miserable for a website, I went to word association and rec'd the window, "I'm sorry the page is down for maintenance" or something to that effect, but I couldn't edit, and I couldn't see anything. I clicked back went to the song game, clicked edit. I thought it was going to hang as I approached a minute and then it popped and I could edit that post. I clicked back, then clicked the arrow forward to return to the song game and rec'd the same error message about maintenance. For me, this is a marvelously positive experience with the "edit" button. You say you do it all the time, my overall experience has been far far worse than what I just described. Indefinite hanging is a problem I experience with the NAFC that doesn't occur on sites like endomondo.com, amazon.com, yahoo.com, in fact, it is unique to this site. Since the last time they redid the site, edit has been a purgatory, and I should be having your experience.

It's funny, you say you don't want to be chained to your computer. I have scanned in many articles from the magazines I've read and grouped them in categories, like bass, carp, catfish, crappie, drum, etc and in those categories made further divisions. The last time I went out I wanted to jig fish a spoon, I just copied the pdf onto my phone. When I'm on the water I can read that article and the four other techniques I'm not used to fishing. It's true, I could bring a paper mag, but it's harder to read a mag in my boat than my phone. Plus I bring my phone any way because I can take a picture if I get a big fish and I can call my wife if I decide to stay later.

There are tens of millions of Americans who no longer want to be chained to the computer and they've found electronic devices that they're comfortable carrying around. It may not fit your lifestyle, but if you fish with anybody else, there's a huge probability that they have a smartphone or something mobile that can access the internet when you're on the water. If the NAFC had a database of all their stories, it would be awesome to try new things in the boat. In my opinion that would leverage all their material. Fishing for a new species? No problem, the NAFC has me covered. As of now, if I wanted to know more about fly fishing, I'd be screwed, I save very little on trout, because nearly all the water around here is too warm in the summer.

Magazines are closing down every day, and it's going to get more prevalent. I haven't checked into your posts, but as of the last couple of days, it appears you've referenced outdoor fishing in several. Do they have a magazine to keep you there?

No, Outdoor-Fishing is strictly a web site, and my favorite fishing web site BTW. I spend time there posting several times daily, as well as visiting here and a couple Arizona fishing sites as well. I don't want to be tied to my computer for any more time than that, as well as time spent doing work for my business. I enjoy reading the magazine (as well as In-Fisherman and Bassmaster) while watching TV, or while waiting for doctor office visits or other waiting time. I'm of the older generation (62 in a couple months) and have NO interest in complicated electronic gadgets that younger people enjoy and have no trouble figuring out how to use. Also, on the lakes here in Arizona, cellular service is lost well before reaching the lakes let alone out on the water. I do take my phone as a means of taking a photo as long as I can take that photo quickly after arriving at the lake. My phone's battery is dead in about 8 hours. And my phone is just that....as basic a phone as possible so I can make a call. No keyboard. I'm old and in the way! LOL

Oh yeah, I just edited this post. I notice very few other members here have the "edit" pencil I have at the top of each post.

    Rodrigo

I think you hit the nail on the head about  Digital technology ! It's changing our lives, we crave more and more of the instant gatification we get from them and it's affecting us in other ways  you can see it all over not just here, people are always in a hurry rushing around  if you say hi to someone on the street or in a store you get a look like  as a culture people are becoming more impatient, frustrated and irritable when they can't get their point accrossed . in a sence we've lost the art of just slowing down, having a meaningfull conversation and enjoying the moments we spend together here on this earth

You mention data base for article if you look under features above you can access them some all the way back to07 fishing for pond cat fish is on page three of the catfish articles  click on the picture to open it

hope each and everyone of you have a great season on the water

    God Bless

Hey Rod Tender! That is good information. I've been reading the articles on catfish, the drawback is they don't show pictures. I know, I might seem a little old for picture books, but when I'm reading Complex Cats by Keith Sutton, I'm having trouble seeing what he's talking about. Three pictures isn't asking a lot, well maybe it is. The point is they're doing something I thought would make the site better, but just never saw it. Thanks for taking the time to tell me about it.

I personally believe that the profanity and insults aren't necessarily whats driving everyone away.  I'm more upset about the website flaws.  Some of the obvious ones have already been addressed in this thread, while others (such as the fact that our IP addresses are being listed next to our profile pics in each comment) go unnoticed.

I'm really getting tired of reading this backbiting and insulting. If you guys want to carry on, why don't you get each other's email addys and do it in private? There were things like this in the old days, but usually stopped when other members asked them to. Please stop!

Hey Dave, I read the post from bass or bass and cannot figure out how he bashed the NAFC? Guess i missed something. And as for "bashing", calling everypne who is a member of Outdoor-Fishing a "Troll", just because you got irritated at people on that site is a cheap shot. In the "art" of viturpulation, one does not have to us sex or mental capacity rated words the be "cursing" them. Your "name calling" is just as provocative as if less acceptable words were used.

And yes, you have put up many helpfull posts, but these recent tirades have not been amoung them.

When I created this thread, I didn't intend for any of this to happen.

This was supposed to be about the loss of interest in the forums, not personal qualms with other members.

The NAFC is a very fine club, it's just this gradual decrease of interest in the forums that is very disconcerting.
