So there's what, 6 of us still on the site?  Last years recipients did a great job, but since I've been in charge of setting the calendar, it's been a back burner issue.  Kinda like life is going on and the tie just doesn't hold the same importance, it did for Jerry (Lip Ripper) and Pete (Turnip).

Well I should probably ask, and figure out the calendar for 2013.  Who wants the tie and when do you want it?

BTW if you don't know what I'm talking about, ask me to go into detail and I'll write up a brief history.

Hey Rodrigo...I am still in possession of the fish tie. I had it for the month of Oct. Did ok with it...caught a few fish with the tie. Then Hurricane Sandy hit NY, I was tied up with that for a while. Then Bass or Bass wanted it, but he said he was having shoulder surgery and wouldn't be able to fish for a few months. So it's after the holidays and new year and I still have the tie. So if anyone wants it...I guess contact who ever is running the fish tie program or post up here...It would be nice to see some ice with the tie.

Yes indeed...I miss all the tie posts...ERABBIT was killin' 'em with that tie! BTW...where was the "nafc big mouth" (who is putting me down for not making good posts) when the tie thread was going strong? He was silent while everyone was fishing.

I'm planning my annual birthday fishing trip this year for April 12-13. I'd be glad to sport the tie then!

Hey Rod, I'm going to try for steelhead (again) with someone here in Washington but a non club member in February. If I got the tie in time for that trip, am I allowed to take HIS picture instead of mine if he catches a fish and I don't (AGAIN!!)? I suppose I could borrow his fish- no one would know but us. ;-)

Duh, I remembered after I posted that last one, I'm also supposed to meet up with another club member for steelhead in February. Maybe we could do a double!
I'll have to send a PM to the current holder to see about getting it in time.

Since you asked. The fishing tie, began as the regifter tie. Here's how it started. A long time ago, my buddy Larry and I are running and he asks me if it would make any difference to me if it hurt fish when they were hooked. This was at the time that some scientist did a study to see if trout felt pain, by injecting a 13oz fish with several mililitres of hydrochloric acid or bee venom into their lips and observed their responses. Because as active fishermen we all know the best bait for small trout isn't worms, nor flies, but acid and venom. What else would you use? Seriously? Best baits ever! And I had read this article and wondered aloud what's that ratio several mililitres to 13oz. I weighed about 200lbs so I'd drink what, 32oz of HCL or bee venom? and then admitted that it wouldn't. I'd still fish. I went on to lecture him about how in the real world nobody ever thinks of spiking their baits with bee venom and acid. I've read a lot of article and it's just not done. My goat was got. A couple of days later, he showed up at my house with this ugly fish tie. I'm looking at it thinking "what the hell do I do with that?" He agreed and said he wasn't ever going to wear it, but he thought I might like it. He said it was given to him as a gift and he was regifting it to me, like that Seinfeld episode. So this tie sits in my closet for a while.

This was one of those times the site was really busy and after Mulinex caught that world record blue cat, I asked the site members if anyone would be interested in passing around this tie. Take it on a fishing trip, get a pic of you wearing the tie and holding a fish, or if you're skunked make up a great story about why you didn't catch any fish. It was positively received and tweaked. Some of the members wanted to have additional gifts going along with it. and a binder holding the stories and pics of those who'd had the tie. I knew there was no way, I'd have the time to look after the tie, so I asked for volunteers to organize the calendar. Jerry aka Lipripper took the job and did a great job for the next handful of years. After he was worn out, Pete aka Turnip took on the job for another several years.

Amazingly, the tie has gone to some really impressive fishermen/women and it has brought some pretty nice luck. I have a list somewhere, but off the top of my head It's been as far north as Alaska for salmon and halibut and it's fished in the Gulf for spots and trout. It's been to the finger lakes meet, the Texas meet and I believe it's been to the Wisconsin meet. It's had some mishaps also. Our third volunteer kept it for about twice as long as he intended and a couple of years ago the original blue tie was lost and it's now an equally attractive brown fish. I was told last year that another fishing site has a tie that's also being sent around. In it's first year it actually had an article in the magazine about it.

This is the plan. Request a month. If it's open you agree to take the tie fishing and photograph yourself with the tie and your catch. Bring others along, because hilarity ensues. Sometimes the tie participates in imbibing after a day on the water. Anyway, post your pics and stories about your fishing trip with the tie, then send it along to the next person. If you want send them something to fish with. If you don't want to do that, it's not a requirement.

I will loosely follow the tie and prompt recipients to send it on if it bogs down anywhere. The most important thing is to have fun, catch fish and document it. We are the brotherhood of the fishing tie and we catch a lot of big fish. It's got some great mojo.

Who esle wants it? All those months are open.

It's to bad we can't get some of the old timers that use to be here to give it a try. Guys like angry bob, lipripper, papa_d, ICB, musky girl, walleye king #1 some of these people used to post alot of pic's of fish caught.

Frank they did have walleye King #1 took ice fishing pictures with Da Tie and his buddies to a NEW level.  I think MG had it at a MEET , Lip had it not sure about the rest. We just need folks to have fun with it fish or no fish host it and tell us a few stories and sun fish pictures. Most of the newer folks on here don't understand what this site was like back then. A lot of the threads on here seem very silly or useless to them. The way we did thinks way back worked great for us. I can remember coming on it the morning seeing Lip was at the bottom of the ONLINE page and try to get out in front of him to say HI in threads that we all seem to use that are deemed useless or silly today by new folks. Now most use the chat BUT what they don't think about is the dude that comes in later. Then they up-graded the site again and again till we got where we are today...........The OLE silly way we did it everyone new we were around that day no matter what time they came in.....................Oh well it's gone BUT Da Tie lives on......LONG LIVE DA TIE......

I remember when I got the box from Howard "walleye king #1" Garris. looked at the notebook for a couple hours reading the stories. He included his modified wing-it bobbers and a lure he said they most often used for walleye in his neck of the woods. I took it to Alaska and met a couple people who knew about the tie. I sent it along to Buddy aka squrlb8 along with a fishing hat. and the beat goes on...

Whales, are all we caught. Steve outfished me 2:1, but I caught the first. photo IMAG0255_zpsb5730e11.jpg I know it's so big. I hear that all the time. This is Steve's first. photo IMAG0257_zpsdeee76ba.jpg This is a nice way to make a dock, if you've got an old spare pontoon boat. photo IMAG0253_zpsd3d89cf5.jpg Here's Steve's second fish. It looks huge if you hold it really close to your face. You may, say you can't see it, so I'll tell you it's in his left hand. photo IMAG0258_zpsf906c472.jpg And there you have it. Fishing on January 19th, 2013, all freakin' enormous bass, but the day was glorious and we showed the tie still has the mojo. I'm going to try and catch another before I send it off to Prober, and I'll be done with the January part of my fishing goals. Woohoo, catching beats fishing, fishing beats most other things so, Hooray for the fishing tie.

I had a blast with the tie...caught some really nice fish with it...but these two shots are my favorites. The first was a tough day...got good and soggy catching that monster. The second was total opposite...it was 102 degrees that day...but I was still out there...me and that tie!

It rained this morning, but it was supposed to warm up and dry out a little. I skipped church and took a couple of rods, just to see if I could hit my January goal of 2 fish/month. I am happy to report, I have 5 fish for the month of January and the tie will soon be moving onto Prober. BTW self pics while holding the fish & the camera and getting yourself in the frame are harder than I thought. You'll see in a moment. The third shot. photo IMAG0263_zps5614fa94.jpg The first shot. photo IMAG0261_zps6d4c2892.jpg the 4th fish. I gave up on self shots. photo IMAG0264_zps7d67cbc0.jpg All fish were caught on the two crankbaits in the picture, except one is hidden in the fish's mouth. March, November and December are still open. Step on up.

My two reactions to not telling anyone about the fish if I skip church:
    1. moderation in everything, even church. If my fishing days equal my church days when I die.. well, I got some more fishing days to catch up before then, anyway.
    2. Idk, if I'll go to hell for skipping church and fishing, but it may be worth it.

The tie arrived unscathed yesterday- unfortunately the lip on the Rapala was broken. I'm going to try gluing it but I think I'll get a new one and try it since it was recommended by an expert.
Thanks, Rodrigo! I'll be out this weekend- hopefully targeting steelies but whatever I might get to bite. Gotta take advantage of 'da mojo' while I can! I'll be sure to post pics as I can...

Ohhhh, bummer. Those two lures are good for trolling. I've done it with a small downrigger. In case you're looking for that Rapala it's a CD-1. If the lip broke off, then it's busted, but if it slid out, then I think you can glue it.

Thanks, wellsley. I'm waiting to hear back from Dr James on the steelhead plan. The season on the northern rivers ended January 31st so we may be travelling to the southern waters but I haven't seen many positive reports from them thar parts so... We'll just have to see what the weather brings. I may be going out in the rusty, err, TRUSTY ol' 'glass bottom boat on a local lake. No matter- I'll get on some water some how, some where as long as I've got the tie to boost my luck. Reports to follow....

New pods of big fish came in with the high water last week.  Tell you what I'll do.  I'll leave my rod in the truck, I'll give you a jig from my Private Reserve (don't sell these), and set your depth.  I'll show you where to cast from and where to put it.  If you miss more than 3 fish, the rod comes out.

OK, here is fish #1 for 2013, and it had the honor of being photographed with the TIE!! He will have a sore lip for a few days but other than that he looked pretty good. Got him on a wedding ring at about 45' in 50' of water. It didn't start raining until I was nearly home although it looked like it could at any time all day. Toward the end of the day my fingers started getting numb but still- a GREAT way to spend a Saturday afternoon! I'm not sure this is working- I'm unable to see anything when I click preview so... if not, maybe I'll get it to work tomorrow!

It was easy, Dave- I didn't have to watch for my float to go down! Actually that part was probably just luck. I saw fish on the finder but didn't even know I had him on. The release on my down-rigger was too tight and didn't let go. I probably dragged him for 20 minutes. I'm glad I didn't drown him!

OK, well I haven't forgotten everything I've learned about fishing.
Although this guy deserved a MUCH better photo (I guess he wasn't quite ready for his close-up Mr. DeMille) I at least managed to get both him and the tie in frame. Should have just taken one of him wearing the tie. He was really a beaut with wonderful colors.
I had to get out there today even though the weather was typical for Washington this time of year. I'm going to try meeting up with JustDave next weekend to pass the baton, er, tie! Maybe he'll be able to get us both with steelies to photo!?!

Well guys, although it was technically March on Friday, I made the trek to Oregon again to try for that elusive steelhead. Dave wasn't able to join me- a bit under the weather and resting up for keeping up with a visiting grandson. Anyway, as you can guess, them fishes are STILL outsmarting me! I followed up the Oregon adventure with an excursion to a new (for me) river, the Wynoochee in SW Washington. I didn't have any better luck there but at least I did get a little look at the river. I wish it wasn't a two plus hour drive for me to get there- I'd like to spend more time exploring it.
Bottom line- I'll be sending the tie along to JustDave in the next couple days and I'm confident he'll be more successful than I was. At least with them bright chromers he targets!
    Go gettum Dave- good luck!

If it's any consolation, February completely skunked me. Snow is a four letter word and I had to scrape it off my driveway, sidewalk, deck, and even part of my roof. Although it's pretty, it's not very useful. I also learned a lesson. At 45 yrs old, sledding hurts. It really does. I'll probably forget this the next time I have an opportunity to sled, but there's no way I'm doing it again in the forseeable future. Prober, you've been an inspiration. Thanks again for hosting the tie. You're a champ!

    Well Ladies and Gentlemen, Prober,

I just got back online finally.  I got the TIE last week.  Although I went fishing (catching) on Monday, the TIE remained home in its' package.  Although it wasn't there, the MOJO is at work.  Here is one of the 2 fish Prober missed.

I'll get back down a few times next week WITH the TIE and get a couple more pics.

OK folks, here's my fishing tie report for 4-12/13-13. Went to Bartlett Lake Arizona. Things turned south for us right off the bat. My boat wasn't running right and we never made it to the spot I wanted to fish, so we beached a couple hundred yards from the two pontoon boats in photo#1. The owner of the further boat (brown and orange with hard top) caught the new Arizona state record flathead catfish @ 6 hours before we beached near him. This fish weighed 76.5 pounds! On this trip I have not only the NAFC traveling bass tie, but allso the Outdoor-Fishing traveling muskie tie! I started out alternating between the two, as a competition. No luck. So I tied them both on for double the good juju. This worked well as I finally caught the monster in photo #2, a good pound of channel cat> Quite a let down after "Flathead Ed's" acheivement the night before! I napped from @ 8:30 pm to @ 12:30 am, when I woke up , re-baited my channel cat rods, and put a bluegill on my flathead cat rod. Fished @ 3 hours, then went back to sleep. At @ 4:30 am my flathead reel's clicker woke me up. I checked the rod, assured there was a fish on it, engaged the reel, and went back to sleep. At dawn I reeled in the fish and Danny took the photos #3 & #4 of the 6.75 pound channel cat that took my flathead bait. Somewhat of a let down , but still a great time at the lake with my good friend Danny.

Sorry, site won't let me upload my photos.
