If any of you have a Dick's Sporting Goods close by they are having a big clearence event (inventory coming up). Or at least all the ones in my area are having the event. 25-75% off the clearence prices. A few examples...a Left hand Abu Garcia 5501 C3 casting reel was clearenced at $79.93 and was half off of that....an Eagle Fish Easy 320C fish finder was clearenced at $154.93 and was half off etc. Probably more deals but that was just 2 of the ones I remember. Anyhow might be worth a look or at least a call toy our local store to see if they are having the sale.

You can still get the same gear at Bass Pro for cheaper Dicks I believe is already outrageously expensive. Nice stuff but expensive

 But in eneral, you may be right that DSG is more expensive than the other stores. I just thought with the extra 25-75% off the lowest marked price it might be worth a look for people to try and save a few bucks.

Dick's does tend to be high priced, but we don't have a Scheel's, and Dick's is a lot closer when you just need a few items to fill your box for an outing. They also carry some items that not even Cabela's and BPS stock and Dick's beats waiting for mail order! Tom

I actually prefer Dick's Sporting that is primarily where I've built my tackle up. We were supposed to be getting a Cabela's in my town (Greenwood, IN), but the company after pre-developing the land pulled out of their expansion plan when the economy tanked. I've been hoping that with the land already prepped Bass Pro would pick up in it's place, but doubt it.

I have to disagree, Dick's is not more expensive. This spring I did an experiment and I strongly suggest you do the same, it really helped me be more conscience of my shopping because I am really just starting out I want to make sure I'm getting my monies worth. I took the 2010 Bass Pro Fishing Master Catalogue, pulled out items I knew I could find at both Dick's & Gander Mtn wrote down the prices and went to both stores and did a comparative price shop. Dick's won, easily. I covered everything from Triliene, Rap DT's, zoom bush hogs, and Eagle claw hooks. My Dick's Sporting Goods was the same price as everything in the BPS catalogue.

Gander Mtn, was the over priced store, and it was noticeable. Plus ten cents, plus a dollar there, plus 5 cents on this, but three cent's cheaper on something else. To me that adds up. If I'm spending my money I want to get my monies worth and over time that nickel and dimes adds up, and could have been an extra pack of 7" worms

There's also a trick to DSG. Join their Scorecard group. That's their preferred shoppers thing. For every $ you spend at DSG you get points on your scorecard, once you've spent up to $50 (I think) you've got enough points they send you a $10 gift certificate. Monday I just took my latest voucher over and bought two spinner baits and walked out free. Cost me $9.98 for a Strike King and Booyah spinnerbaits. They can keep the two cents. The DSG scorecard group is really what makes it worth it. Being a member of that you get exclusive coupons that you don't get in Sunday ads like for additional 15% off of you purchase which you can add to already sale prices. You have to keep an eye on them in the fall and early spring especially they have clearances to clear out fishing stuff to make room for the new season. Some of that can be up to 20% off plus your 15% off added to that.

They also send you coupons for a free scorecard points so you get your $10 gift certificate with less money spent out of your pocket.

Two biggest faults with Dick's their selection is not as great as a BPS or Cabela's, particularly with their rods, reels, and combos and two dealing with all the teenagers in their shopping for shows and listening to the blaring music are turn offs. But by far, for me, the best value when buying fishing stuff is DSG.

Unfortunately. the only Dick's I have seen is off of I-10 just west of Pamona CA and all they have is Athletic gear, no sporting goods....Darn. On the other hand, I am only two hours from the BPS in Vegas.

Only two hours? Wow. I can get to Dick's, Gander Mtn, BPS and Cabela's ALL in 2 hours(if I don't go in) Living near a major city does have a few advantages! Tom

the only Dick's is 2 hrs away and they never have what I'm looking for when I'm in the area and yes they charge more.

Wow!!!    I feel honered to have [6] different Sporting Goods stores near me.
 [4] are within a 20 minute drive and the other two, maybe 35- 40.

DSG,  Bass Pro Shop = [2],.. and The Sports Authority, all are the close ones to me.
Cabelas [in KC, KS.] and Rogers Sporting Goods  // in Liberty, MO. are the farthest away.

DSG = I find bargain lures/crank baits on sale. Their selection of fishing items is so-so.
Cabelas, = I seem to do best in the Bargain Cave there. 
Rogers, =  I have bought a lot of  On Sale stuff out of two boats just inside the entrance.

I personally find BPS more expensive in their fishing items, I agree it's quality,... but just a little too high to suit me, and I buy only what I need from them.

The Sports Authority [yuk]   It seems to me everything they try to sell in the fishing Dept. is at least Double the price of all the other places.  I haven't been able to buy one thing out of it yet.

I have 2 Sports Authority stores less than 15 min from me, and the only time I darken the door is if I'm looking for a sweat shirt! Tom

You guys are very lucky to have all those stores in your area. We have nothing like that here in Washington. The closest Cabelas is 3.5 hours ayaw in Lacey, Wa and most of what they have is for salmom and trout fishing and I don't fish for either of those. All the gear I need has to be ordered from BPS, Tacklewarehouse, or Hi's Taclke. The first time I got to go to a BPS was in Macom,Ga and it only cost me $800 to get out of there. So I envy all you guys.

Bassbandit,  I know what you mean--that is a nice store in Macon, Georgia.  Can you imagine what having six or seven stores would do to your budget.  I would go crazy with what little "crazy money" I got.  Best thing that has happened to me is that my seven year old grand daughter who lives with me loves going to Bass Pro Shops.  If I lose her she generally is climbing up on one of the bears or hugging a wold.  What a joy it brings to me to hear her say:  "Pa, let's get this one (lure) it looks so pretty or Oh Pa do you want this one?"  Thank God for grand children!  Uncle Tom 

Amen to that Tom I have 3 myself 2 boys and a gril. I got to take my granddaughter fishing a few weeks ago and just had a ball watching her catch perch she is 5 years old. Before she left to go home she ask if the next time she came can AI take her again and you know I said yes.
