Hey everyone just got a vary unexpected Christmas bonus, and was thinking about treating myself to a new reel. There are two that I have been looking at for a little bit. I wanted to see what your input was on them.  The first one is the is the “okuma trio 40 high speed’

The second is the “Quantum kvd signature series spinning reel”

So let me know what you think.

    Thanks and happy fishing

    Hey...I just answered this...in "ask a fisherman".
Ashes to ashes, dust to dust, if it wasn't for my super smooth carbon drag, my 30 year old Trilene would bust!

I'm a fan of Quantum products, so that would be my choice.

KVD stands for Kevin Van Dam. Some of the price you pay for that reel is for his name only.

As I do reel repair, The Okuma line seems to be good in quality and improving every year. I vote you go with the Okuma, if it will handle all your fishing needs.

Scasteel- Yeah I know that some of the $ on the Quantum is coming from the name on it. But it did get some good reviews and so did the okuma. That’s why I’m kinda stuck. I do like that face that the okuma is really water prof. as most of the fishing I do is on my kayak and even know I have my rods tied down. This past year there was occasion where my $150 set up fell in and wasn’t tied down. Luckily it was in about 4 feet of water. I was able to use my other rod to hook it. It was under for about and 10 minutes or so witch was fine. But I still was worried that I didn’t get all the water out. What did you think of the new drag system that it had when you tested it?

I have used Okumas since their intro into our area. Never had one break or malfunction in any way. I work in a local sports shop and have promoted them to our "hard-core" Shimano fans. More than half have converted. Good luck in your choice. Remember that any tool that gets you out fishin' is a GOOD tool.
