A few years back the NAFC offered a great set of books published by them to all members. There were 50 books in the total collection. I have all 50 books and none of them were ever even opened; binders never bent back. Health reasons forced me to sell my bass boat and all my gear. I would like to sell the entire 50 book collection to one of you who will enjoy the books. They cover every conceivable topic, they are all hard cover books and have great full color details and illustrations. I am asking a very modest $1.50 a book which is incredibly below what I actually paid for them. In other words, for $75 you can own the entire 50 book collection. The only other cost will be actual shipping costs using UPS group; 50 books weigh a few pounds but travel well. This is a rare opportunity to any of you and the first person to respond owns the collection. Attached are a few pix of the books. The pix are not very good but it does show you that they exist and my offer is real. Please contact me at edblue@comcast.net if you are interested. If I get no response they go on e-Bay. Good luck |

That library is one of the first things I purchased from the club. It is a great resource and I continually return to it...Enjoy! LM since 2005 Bushwacker Deputy Sherif |

I have to admit, the more I am thinking about it, I will most likely buy a new book case to display them on. My "cubby" is getting a bit full, as I have books upon books about tall sailing ships (since I build scale wooden models of ships and frigates from the 1700-1800s), ropecraft (since I have to rig these models), and a ton of various books of nautical history. As it is, I am still trying to find room to season wood for some of these models. Thankfully enough, it takes 6 months to a year or more to build one, which by the time I finish one model, the wood is seasoned enough that I can start the next ship, then I buy wood for the ship I will be building after. Seeing how glue takes a while to set and dry, I needed something to keep me occupied while I am waiting for curing and such. After seeing your trebles, I contemplated doing something like that to keep my hands busy, but I am sure that if I start yet another "hobby", I would prolly end up as chum once the Mrs got it figured out that I had started another enterprise... I have attached a couple of pics of the last ship I built.

Very, very nice work! I have always admired individuals that have the patience and vision to tackle a project like that...I certainly understand about starting "another" hobby! LM since 2005 Bushwacker Deputy Sherif |

Yeah, being retired, I have "lots" of time on my hands. That ship took just over 900 hours from start to finish. Mostly, what I do is donate the finished project, either to a charity (like the shriners - so they can sell it off with the money going to the children's hospital, or to a vet organization to use for a raffle prize, there again, proceeds going to veteran relief programs) or I find a veteran that just needs a little "pick me up" and I give it to them, to inspire them, "rekindle" that spark that keeps people going type thing. I just enjoy the labor of the project, and I don't really care about making money. The material costs are nice to recoop, but I don't think too much about that. These are some build pics to give you the idea of the process.

Absolutely astonishing. Will, I've never seen such craftmanship even on the full sized tall ships. I has a sense that you were soemone very special and your skills and charitable thought prove I was right. It's a bit ironic that both of us have had major spinal surgeries. The hobby I took up many more years ago than I want to remember was to re-created the leaded glass domes of Tiffany. I got hold of a set of diamond grinding wheels and also got the orifginal Tiffany patterns. I found a stained glass supplier and the final products were remarkably received by collectors of the real items. One of them didn't believe that my lamps were not Tifanny but I guess I'm just too honest and let him down gently. As I told you, I have quite a few bait-cast and spinning reels that never even wore fishing line That I will put up for sale shortly. Some of the reels listed for $250 to $350 each. As before, I will sell them at sacrifice prices to club members who will truly enjoy them. Stay well and please keep in touch. P.S. let me know when you receive the 82 ppunds of books I sent to you. |

Theolan, I must say I am quite impressed. Exquisite workmanship, and selfless contribution of your fine work. And eloquent wordsmanship in addressing N.A.F.C. members dissatisfaction with club issues. It's a pleasure to know you, if only online. Happy fishing. ~N.A.F.C.~B.A.S.S.~BoatU.S.~N.R.A.~A.M.A.~ |

Well, I have decided on packing up some of my other books, mostly ones that I don't really use much (my law books, and various college text books) so that I can store my new collection thanks to Ed. I have discovered the cook books are not repeats, however, some are paperback, some are hardback. So that will be my next endeavor. Waste of money, probably. But I would like to keep the library up to date. I appreciate the kind words in regards to my shipwright hobby. It is actually very therapeutic as is fishing, and truly the reason I do both. I will let you know Ed when the books arrive and will post a pic of the books in their new home :) Mr Mistery, as I have invited Ed to come north to do some fishing, the invite is always open for you as well. I guess Turnip is one of these guys that likes to fish anywhere anytime, so I extend the offer to you to sir. I might have a little boat, but, hey, its enough to get me where I need to go. And it will hold 3 peeps fishing with gear, so the more the merrier. I may even try to get over to Wisconsin for the meet in '09. Any day on the water or in the woods is solitude itself. |

The books arrived today, right on time, and I have to admit, the book case looks nice with all those new blue bound tomes sitting there. I will have something to do to keep my mind busy as I am waiting on glue or stain to dry now... Thank you Ed for such a wonderful collection at such a good price. If I play my cards right, I might be able to tie in a visit to yellow bear also...

Just let me know sir, and I can make the necessary arrangements. I may even buy a tub of ice cream, and have the Mrs bake a dutch apple pie. Any day on the water or in the woods is solitude itself. |
