so..........it appears that all of the NAFC members in AZ have all the fishing partners and friends they need and aren't interested in meeting any new ones. I had hoped that we could arrange a meeting of members to get aquainted, make new friends, and do some fishing, but appearantly not. What apathy ! I'm giving some thought to starting a group or club of enthusiasts of multi species fishing. I have 6 fishing buddies who would take part in such a venture, none of whom are NAFC members. Perhaps it would be easier to arrange a meeting of non members who enjoy fishing than trying to get members off their backsides. Opinions ? |

i have noticed that people here are shut down, they live in distrust of each other. people living in fear. fear of home invasions, of bill collectors, of each other. its crazy as hell. there are sooo many weirdo`s around here that ya gotta be selective, but shut down? thats pretty bad. SCARED? I AINT SCERED!! I dont even carry & i dont fear any man, shoot me & i know where im goin. so why trip? Ill always want to meet new people to share my passion for fishing , so dont give up. Hey FISHFEARME , did you ever get together with fact135 for a fishing trip ? I have 4 fishing friends who are always ready to go and any more than 2 in my boat ( with coolers, tackle boxes, gear bags, etc. ) is just a bit too overcrowded , which is why I would like to get members to meet and get aquainted and maybe get a multi member fishing trip organized. well I'm not giving up. I'll keep trying to prompt people to get together for a meeting. Come on members. Happy fishing. |

hey m m , sent ya a pm. as for the meeting. Alot of folks are in limbo right now over the economy ,bills, mortgages, all that dirty stuff that irks us. fishing is an escape from that crap for us. people may want to burn their gas a bit wiser [to them any how] but alot of folks here are just emotionally bankrupt, my neighbor thought i was a wacko for sayin hello, as i picked up his paper & handed it to him while walking by. I guess courtesy, respect & humanity has been cooked out their heads? this is AZ. If this is how people are here, i dont like it. FISHFEARME |

Even though most of the people here came from somewhere else, they don't seem to have the neighborhood mentality I remember growing up as a kid in Pennsylvania. Staying inside to escape the high heat, block houses , block walls , etc. all lead to isolationism. Perhaps on a future fishing excursion with my buds who own boats we can get Fact135 and you to join us . This time of year we always go overnight on the lakes because it's not so brutal after the sun goes down. I need to rebuild the fuel pump on my motor next week. It's flooding the carb. |

Isolationism, or agoraphobia? [ fear of leaving the house]. screwy desert dwellers!! hey, id love to get out @ night. anytime is a good time for me bro. pleasant would be very interesting @ night i think? that water is way too clear to get after them shallow during the day.[ I think the giantbass come out to feed @ night there] sure you can hit dinks all day, but i still got that 1 fish a day mentality from musky hunting, Im just using it to pop a giant bass.If I get bored ill tie on a dropshot, but im not bored yet. just hardheaded. I'd be down to get together for some fish talk if gas wasn't so damn expensive. If we were to meet in the east valley I could swing it, but I can't really afford to drive more than 10 miles unless I'm heading to the lake (which I can barely afford to do anyways). Hey Fact135, one of my fishing/boat owner buddies lives in Tempe and likes to fish Canyon Lake because it's on his side of town and it costs a lot now to tow his boat , a 24' cruiser. So maybe we can get an overnight fishing party organized for later this summer at Canyon. Wadda ya think Fact135 and FISHFEARME ? |

That sounds great. If your buddy lives in tempe, then he is just as close to Bartlett as he is to Canyon (Canyon is 52 miles from my house and Bartlett is 56). I'd just assume head to Bartlett where there is much better fishing and more shoreline to pull the boats up to. Plus I know that lake like the back of my hand. If possible we should try to do this during the week so we can avoid the idiots that the weekends bring. I know it's tough to break away during the week but with a little planning maybe we could all make it work. We'd have a much better chance at a productive outing. as a founding member of the ohio chapter, i can say it looks as tho you 3 have the makings of a meet. we initially started with 3 of us kicking the idea around and then decided to get together and plan where and when to have it. by the time we held our 1st planning meeting our numbers had grown from 3 to 15. we tried to start small, but everyone just jumped on board after we got the gumption to meet. it only takes a couple of people with drive to get it off the ground ORIGINAL OHIO OUTLAW

I am the Chairman of the Ohio Chapter and as Sugarcreek said we started with 3 and now in we are 94 members strong. This in less then 2 years. Your plans for a meet or an evening fishin is a great start. Now mister mystery if you include your friends that aren't currently members, that will take you to 9 and if the other two add their fishin buddies! well you get the picture. One thing in Ohio we open our meets to members and their guests, most of which end up joining the NAFC so they can become regular members of our chapter. Now take it one step further, if any of the people that want to get together have family that fish or just enjoy the outdoors, you can throw them into the mix. Which is one of the reasons we have grown. If you would like some ideas fill free to register and check out our website at nafcohiochapter.com, Please fill out the registration and include a correct location so we will be able to activate you. Our secretary will send you and email and request some other information and if you send that to her, you will become a charter member of the Ohio Chapter. Ohio Chapter Chairman

Seems that the major problem we have in getting a state group going is that we are spread out all over the state. From some of the comments there are a greater percentage in the greater Phoenix area than most of the rest of the state. I am in Bullhead City and during the "Arizona Members" sign in, there were a couple others indicating they were up in this area but they have been totally silent in the last couple months. Most of the members do not seem to sign on very often. I will admit that I am not a very good joiner, I do manage once in a while though. I do check the site on a regular basis. |

I took a gander at the Ohio website and it is nice, thought about signing up since we were invited but Ohio is a long way away. It was a nice invite from arv1 though. I was surprised that no one else had a comment though. |

I think another reason a meet hasnt taken off is that there are alot of "clicks" here. Most just dont wanna take the time, & for what ? The one factor is this, & I hate to say it. Ive met peeps from Cali, Texas,Wisc, Maine.............They all say the same things...............Fishing here sucks..........Even good sticks from here that travel say the same thing. If you wanna catch fish in Az, you gotta drive 3 hrs. Then its a crapshoot on top of it. If someone cares to dissagree, well I got gass $$ .............Show me............. FISHFEARME |

I would still like to try to get people to get together to get aquainted and make some new fishing friends. I have 1 regular fishing partner and 3 occassional fishing partners. Wouldn't mind making a few more. We could set up a meeting at a park or Tempe Town Lake to avoid a long drive for Phoenix area members, just to get together and see where it goes. Anyone ? If it would help, you guys are more than welcome to fish here in Big Sky Country. And quite honestly, the fishing here is pretty rootin tootin good. You can catch anything here from trout, to bass, to pike, walleye, freshwater drum, burbot, and if you aint careful a wife too. People here are friendly, they have to be, the 3 largest state with less than 2 million in population. Not to mention, we are getting a new cabelas store here next year. I know they have one in Arizona, but, none the less, its something. And hey, ya know if the fishing sux so to speak, well there is always elk huntin. There's always plenty of that here. Not to worry, contrary to popular belief, we do have cars here, and we don't drive wagons and we still aren't at war with the indians. So if you decide to get a look at the closest place to heaven, take a drive up to Big Sky Country, and I will haul ya around on my dinghy. Any day on the water or in the woods is solitude itself. |

Theolan, it has been 30 years since I have made the trip up to MT and hope to get up that way again someday. Loved the feeder streams to the Big Hole, enjoyed hiking into Beartraps with a friend from Colorado ( We met the day before) and fishing near Twin Bridges. And this in just a couple of trips. Never hunted there though, probobly won't but congratulations and good wishes to those who get the chance. FishFearMe, your comment is quit a turnaround from "Are you getting them?, I am", of not so long ago. |

Doesn't seem like most of the people are very talkative. I will admit that I am somewhat reclusive and even when I join I do not always join in. I did hook up with the Ohio chapter, seems like a very nice bunch of people. If any of you know of someone with some organizational skills, maybe you can follow the Ohio example and form a core in the central valley to which some of the rest of us scattered through the state can eventually hook up with. Well, it is a thought. |

I am surprised that none of the Maricopa county people weighed in on this one. There are some food fishing opertunities in the Arizona, certainly not the same as those places which have streams every few miles, but some. Stripers, Colorado River and Lake Pleasant. Tilapia, Lower Colorado River. There may be other areas also. Catfish, Start at river and go east. Lower Colorado and perhaps Roosevelt may have the biggest. Lots of options there. Of course bass and panfish are found in the same waters. Redfish, Texas is probobly the closest place. desertratalien@npgcable.com |

I wouldn't mind getting together for a trip. But with work and kids and whatnot, it's not always a capable venture. It isn't anything personal to any club member. I'm down here in tucson and regularly fish urban lakes. I also fish patagonia and arivaca ocasionally. |

I'll be fishing the Agua Fria river on Lake Pleasant on June 21-22. I'll be overnighting it on the boat, fishing from Sunday morning through Monday afternoon. My boat is a 16' Glastron, almond and copper colored, with bimini top and Evinrude motor. If you see me there, pull up and say hi. Always glad to meet a fellow member. Happy fishing.
