Steelhead in the American River starts as early as late September & runs as late the end of April. This is including the Winter & Spring runs. The winter Steelhead tend to be bigger reaching 20-22LBS, but the Spring run will have the more aggressive of the group. Tips: Drift Salmon Roe or Crawlers through Runs & Riffles. FlyFishing: Any thing Caddis, Beadhead Nymphs, & Roe Bugs. Streamers & Buggers also work well for the more aggressive fish......Black is the new pink! Good Luck!
