Anyone walleye fish in Georgia? Specifically I'm interested in fishing Carters Lake since it's more convenient for me to head there than some of the other lakes.  I don't own a boat, but a friend does. So if anyone can share some tips for both bank and boat fishing that would be much appreciated!

When do the spawn here? What about fishing for them in summer heat?

I'm more of a river/stream and pond kind of guy. I don't fish large lakes much.

    Thanks in advance

I have caught walleye here in Blue Ridge Lake. Spawn is usually in Feb?early Mar. up in the headwaTers (Toccoa River.) Course a lot depends On weather and temp. Blue Ridge is deep and cold and clear and walleyes do best evenings and nights. #5 Rapalas are the standard cranks and nightcrawlers fished deeper are always good. maybe on a dropshot rig. I have caught a few trollinf deep during the day and during the shad spawn in May they will be on the bank feasting on shad and anything white, twisters and cranks will work. You will have to fight off the SM and Spots but the 'eyes are there close by also. Cloudy days on wind blown steep banks will bring 'eyes up to feast on threadfin and bluebacks.
I have a boat , but have caught eyes bank fishing at late evening, soaking nightcrawlers and minnows off steep points. Trouble is not much access is on public property. Might try at the dam and Morganton point boat ramp.
I have fished Carters but not for walleye. Tough to fish without a boat and my guess would be up in the river portion.

    Dan,

Walleye are more widespread than they ever have been in GA. I'll just hit some high points and you can send me an email for more specific (if needed). I caught the original lake record Walleye in Lake Russel - a lake they thought did not have Walleye. It has since been beat twice and the latest is the state record Walleye. My 7lb 4oz fish was in April on a spinnerbait, during a bass tournament. My brother had one as well that went 5.5 lbs. This was post spawn on a main lake hump in Beaverdam creek.

Last year there was some buzz surrounding the Walleye population in Lake Sidney Lanier. It did not surprise me because we'd caught small ones in two different locations - both down lake (Young Deer) and up lake (Holly Park). The new info on Walleye is available on the GA DNR website. If you can't find it email me and I'll send you a copy. As you can imaging the spawn happpens really early while the water is still cold. One are they pointed out for this spawning activity is a "Mud Creek" that is somewhere above Lula Bridge up the 'Hooch. Size was up to 7 pounds.

BTW - you can also catch Yellow Perch in Lanier Jerry A
