I will be moving to Georgia just outside Hartwell in a few months about 5 min from the lake. I'm looking for any info on fishing Lake Hartwell., mostly for the species other than bass so I can take my girlfriend's children on successful fishing trips catching nice size fish .Will be mostly shore fishing. Also any info on trout fishing in the area would be appreciated.... Thanks

ravenwolf71, wish I could help but never been to Hartwell....good luck to ya'. I've been trying to get Ga members to get more involved with each other but well....it ain't happened yet...maybe one day. If you get up there and figure what's going on give me a heads up and I'll make a trip up there and we can hook up. I'm in Woodstock, about 2 hrs or so away.

I'm not down there yet. Hopefully I will be by Sept. From what i've read it has just about every species form Largemouth and stripers to trout and walleye.

ravenwolf71, I'd love to help. I've been fishing Hartwell since the late 70's and most recently had a wonderful trip the 1st week in April with my son. I'd be glad to help however I can. One of the most interesting spots we located on my last trip up there was an old abandoned boat ramp. I've not got access to a lake map here so for ease of transfer let me give you a lat/long that you can find on Google Maps. Just plug this into the little search bar - 34 28 47.99N, 82 55 57.71W hit enter and take a look at this little cove. From a bank fishing point of view it should have a lot to offer. There's a little hump you can get to when the water is low. The back end is fairly shallow but with low water you should be able to make it out almost to main lake. Take note of the rocks on the side of the little hump. This will hold bluegill for the kids and a Hartwell special called Redeye Bass. Both are easy to catch on artificial or live bait. Problem lies in that neither gets very big. That last trip I did have one Redeye that went 15" and weighed 1lb 5oz. He' still swimming around up there so you have a shot at him.
Another favorite is the Fairplay boat ramp. There you have restrooms, etc. and plenty of bank to walk around (close to deep water). Let me research and get you some more info. Jerry
