Went out for the first fishing trip of the year yesterday. Took a charter out of East Chicago, Indiana marina. between the 4 of us we managed to catch 6 COHO at about 2 pounds each and 1 Brown Trout that went 16 pounds. That brown had such a big hook on its lower lip it could have locked its jaw.

Its sure sad when someone from NY is the only one posting in the Illinois thread. It seems just yesterday there were more boyz from Illinoiz then from any other state. Don't have to break ice below the dams on the Rock River. Just have to watch out for ice flows.lol

I fished more in 2008 than I have at anytime in my life.

Hey John,

How's the ice fishing? I've been out at least once a week this winter. The local lake isn't getting too many big fish. And now the private pond has opened up to where I cannot get on it. I was geting some ok crappies there. I haven't travelled too far from home since I got laid off 3 weeks ago. Been trying to find work. I've been fishing Mondays and Fridays so I can leave my weekends open for family time. If you want to travel out my way, let me know and we can fish together.

Us Illinoiz Boys need to fish together someday. Last meet I went to was Clinton Lake in 2007. That was a nice day. Being laid-off like I am, I don't travel too far(at all!!). Would like to fish Mississippi River with someone who know how and where to catch Walleye. Teach me, Obi-Wan, Teach Me!!

what do you flatlanders (sorry force of habit, no disrepect intended) catch through the ice in the rock?  i fish it in wisco, and POUND walter....but only in spring and fall.  never even really considered it an option for hard water...

Good Morning, even though it is almost afternoon. Didn't leave the boat untril 10 last night, and it is a bit over an hour trip home. Slept in this morning, now I have to pack last night's catch and catch up on chores so that I can get on the water again! Seems I am the only surviving member of the Boyz! I may just have to take up weekend residence at my sister in law's place and claim Ohio residency! ice fishing is over now. at least for me. What do you plan on fishing for this year and how?

I want to learn how to fish the Miss. for Walleye using a Drop-shot Rig instead of a plain ol' jig head. I've heard the drop-shot rig is easier to fish in current. especially if you use a heavy weight to keep your line vertical.

Also plan on fishing some streams for trout. But it looks like I will be driving to Iowa to find the trout streams. Maybe WI.,, too

Good morning. Looks like the lakes and ponds in McHenry and Lake counties are pretty much free of ice now with the exception of some of the deep quarrys(Three Oaks). Time to wet a line. Tom

I've been out a few time to the local State Park. Only caught a few small bass. Saw a guy catch an 18" Muske from his boat. Wish the rain would go away.

Hey, Wellsley! Most of the old time boyz don't come around anymore. Seems Brian and I are the only ones left from 4 or 5 years ago, and even Brian doesn't post much anymore. It's been so long, I don't even remember the names other than Lazarus for some reason.
